Our New House Construction

PostAuthor: stoneman » February 22, 2009, 8:57 pm

I have now been in Thailand over 8 years and for the past 7 years have been married to a great gal and we have a wonderful 5 year old son...We have always lived in BKK and just recently moved to Nong Wuaso...We decide 5 years ago that we would buy a piece of property in Nong Wuaso with the idea of eventually moving here and building a house.. We bought the land, almost 1 rai and added the fill dirt and it has set for almost 5 years...

We have been working on the house plan for several years and have made many changes and we finally arrived at a plan we liked and it fit on our lot...We also found a builder about 2 years ago and we have been working with him on the plans to get them done so that the Thais could understand what we wanted, hoping to lessen problems during construction..

About 1 1/2 years ago, we along with the contractor marked off the dimensions of the house on the ground and specified where the pilings should go..We drove 30 pilings..They have been sitting in the ground doing nothing since then,,,Finally 6 weeks ago, we started construction...
Image

The first task was to uncover each piling..add a re bar base and attach the re bar for the cement support columns..

I will continue the story of the construction, but I want to post this to see if I have figured out how the image thing works..If it is not correct, would appreciate comments on the correct procedure...I am a good builder, but computer things are not my strong suit..

Wrong synthax it seems. The img tag must be closed by a /img tag. The / is missing.

Stoneman,
I have done first one for you - but my PC is a bit on the slow side to do all of them.
Basically, when you have uploaded the image to ImageShack you then copy the "string" it gives you under "Forum" then you Paste that link directly into your post, no need to put [img] in front of it....

your using the host it button here, so scroll down and use the 1st tag under the pic when done loading, i find that works best/easiest for me.

nice to see they know what rebar is, instead of thin sh*t, stay on top of them, and you have a nice one. good luck, looking forward to the rest. a great help for those thinking about building in future. aussieboys thread is excellent for those thinking wood, be nice to have something to compare to at todays prices for block house.

just a point of interest if you see were the door is it would have been better if it was were the window is because of the roof over head and when it rains the water from the roof falls in front of the door bad mistake in the planning but i did not draw them so now when I get some extra money guess what I am going to make the exchange but I will leave the steps were they are

Ron, looking at your pic why dont you extend the short front roof at a lesser angle to cover your door & steps, easily done & should'nt be expensive. That will solve the rain problem.

Keep posting, Stoneman because I'm interested as I'll be following the building trail over the next year or so. Log all your building issues for me and any other problems you may come across.

We too are planning to construct a house on our small block, 15.5m X 20m (X2) x 6.5m, within 2kms of Udon station. We are thinking to copy the Chalini guest house on the riverside road in Luang Prabang. Unfortunately it has no web site but I do have photos on a mobile phone which I can't figure out how to send to a pc. We have discussed with Thai Land House.com which draws up all the plans for a fee. They speak English but insist on all communication by email about which we are not happy and might choose a local Udon architect or one referred by forum members with whom we could verbally discuss.

"Chalini" is built of clinker bricks and timber, is 2 storied and has top and bottom verandas across the front. Interestingly it has a beautiful slightly curved roof which I have not seen anywhere else in Laos or in Thailand. I just hope local architects could copy the building design, capable builders could construct it from building materials we would purchase separately and provide, and that clinker bricks could be available in Udon.

If anyone is interested I will keep the forum advised of developments.

I was thinking about what you said but I do not want to change the look of the front of the house.
so I will just wait until I get few more bucks and decide what I will do thank you for your suggestion
