Overstay on a visa questions

PostAuthor: BKKSTAN » September 14, 2007, 10:32 am

I have a friend flying in today to make a visa run.He was supposed to make the run on the 11th!Today being the 14th,he is 3 days late!Although I live in Nong khai,I don't cross over to Laos<so I don't know alot about the procedures!
I have some questions!
First ,what is the procedure for the overstay when you go to the bridge?Do you tell them that you are overstayed 3 days?If you do,what do they do?Is there a fine?Does he have to worry about incarceration? If there is a fine, how much?
Also,I will be picking him up at the UTH airport on 1430,does anyone know if there is a closing time for crossing the bridge on visa runs?

Tell your friend to follow normal procedures, he doesn't need to declare overstay, the immigration will check for this. He just needs to hand over his passport at the immigration booth. The officer will check the date in the passport and then tell your friend to take his passport to the office. The officers will count the days overstay and present him with a bill for 1,200bt (400bt per day). They will fill in several forms and give him a receipt, then they will then stamp his passport with overstay. Too many of these don't look good so I would advise him not to do it too often. He can then travel to Laos and back again.

Advise him to take dollars for the Laos visa.

Actually it's 500bt per day.

Stan the check point is open into the evening, can't remember the closing time. Here's their number 0-4241-1605 :D

Your lead foot should get you there in time :D :D

if too late to cross over, he can pay the fine in advance of crossing the next day. the first overstay day used to be free, also used to be 200 baht, now 500 for yanks, but same for all i belive.

The fee is 500 bht per day, also I have been told the bridge closes at 10 PM but I haven't been there that late myself. Google shows operating hours 6AM-10PM

I've always been told to point out to the immigration officer you have overstayed and ask what to do, this way you're not possibly trying to hide the fact and are being honest with them. The guy at the immigration gate will see it anyway so it doesn't hurt to help him out. As mentioned above, he will send you to the office where they will fill in papaerwork and produce a bill and invoice for you and send you on your merry way to Laos
