Click on Start and then Control Panel. Click on the User Accounts link. In the pick an account to change area of the User Accounts window, click on your Windows XP user name. Choose the Remove my password link. In the text box on the next screen, enter your current password. Click the Remove Password button to confirm that you'd like to remove your account password. Close the User Accounts window and the Control Panel window. Windows should now load all the way to your desktop automatically.

Bear, when it asks you to 'change your password', just leave it blank and enter. It should accept the blank (nothing) as the new password.

In your control panel, do you have a user accounts icon AND a user accounts 2 icon? Click (or double click) it if you do and there is a check box "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." Uncheck that and try again.

P.S. Are you using XP Sp2 or Vista?
