Check the manual for your wireless router. If the manual isn't any help, log onto the router control panel and look around for the security settings. If you don't have the manual, you might be able to find it on the internet.

By the way, a malware demonstration program recently showed that a downloaded program (perhaps part of a Trojan Horse, or something that comes over the web) can change your modem's firewall settings, allowing free access to your entire network from the outside, so its a good time to change the password for your modem and/or router from the factory default, if you have not already done so.

Can't help you on how to do it but I recommend you get it done ASAP. I've just recently returned from 3 weeks in Aus constantly on the road and I managed to stay on line by 'Stealing' bandwidth from unprotected WIFI. Not a great admission I know but easy.

BH, what is the make and exact model of your router please. E.g, is it a Netgear WGR614 54Mbps?

P.S. As a starter insert the CD and go through the installation process and see do you get to a step to generate a WEP key.

Alan it is a TP-Link TD-W8910G (54M Wireeless ADSL2+Router).
I went through the Windows installation process & I do have a WEP key. However when I look in available Wireless network connections it is classified as "Unsecured".
What I want to do is make it password protected - same as the system at The Clock. If no one can help I will have to drop by and ask Steve (Oh rats!!!! :D :D )

type 192.168.1.1 in your browser. This is how I access my wireless modem. You will have a number of options. One will probably be setting up the modem. Try it. I have never been able to get mine to work with 128 bit encryption. I suggest trying 64 bit.

Hi Bob, we have a D-Link secured connection at our office, however I'm sure most routers share the same installation process.

I'm not sure if it will help but this is how I secured mine.

1. Enter IP address http://192.168.1.1 into browser and then enter username and password to access admin panel
2. Select wireless
3. Enable AP (access point) and give it a name or keep the default. This could be something like Bob2008 etc.
4. Select 'Enable WEP Wireless Security'
5. Enter an encription key i.e. 10 digit number of your choice for a 64 bit encryption
6. Select apply.
7. Close your browser
8. Disable your wireless connection
9. re-connect
10. enter password (encription key)
