Pop-up

PostAuthor: banpaeng » October 6, 2005, 6:10 pm

This is something that started today. When I go to the forum page a pop-up would come up but my blocker is blocking it. Don't know if pop-up is meant or not but this is just to let someone know.

A pop up box will appear on this forum when a message arrives in your inbox. You can adjust your pop blocker to allow popups on individual websites.

I retract and say no problem with popups and site.

Thanks Lee for an education.

It sounds to me like you have a bug in your system somewhere. If there was a problem within udonmap.com then all users would experience the same problems. I've logged on today without a problem and have done so all times in the past. I have never experienced any problems within this forum via my own computer and all other computers I have accessed it from. Also I believe admin hasn't had problems or any other member of the Udon Map staff so this has left me scratching my head what the problem could be.

I believe viruses can attack your computer and view your browsing habits; they may attack sites you visit frequently or have as your homepage and then inject pop ups and other unwanted programs while you're browsing these sites. I am in no way and expert on computer viruses, my background is web and graphic design so I really can't advise you what the problem is. Maybe if Bangkok Butcher is around he'll be able to give you more advise because he knows about all this stuff. Or we could ask Cliff of Pop Pop's Net and Games to open udonmap.com on all of his computers and see if they all open correctly, if they do then I'm afraid the problem must be on your own computer.

Sorry I can't help any further and good luck.

I would suggest it is your "Firewall" routinely warning you of communications to or from your PC of which it is not sure. I have often had similar messages, though not when using the Udon map website.

I use NVIDIA Firewall, in preference to the one included in Windows Xp. Sometimes the Firewall will issue warnings of anticipated unauthorised access. Sometimes it is a bit too "strict" and prevents me from running Norton Anit-Virus automatic updates.

My Firewall also routinely blocks "pop-ups" which it does for example when I access Bangkok Post website.

Hope that helps.

No problems here so i would ask Sean how to tweak your firewall settings.I believe some programmes running in the bachground may set it off.

You could 'possibly' have a corrupted mshtml.dll file, this problem will only affect certain sites.

Try downloading a replacement one from here:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-f ... tml?mshtml

Install it and see if it makes a difference.

Also could you be a bit more precise as to where and when this error message was showing up...

Thanks.

Thanks everyone. With all your help, I have managed to cure the problem by resetting my computer back 48 hrs, it is working okay, this meant the nasty thing entered on a specific day and time, so by anaylsis of my history for that period I have traced it. It started with a link from Udonmap to Udondee, which my wife has used many times without problem, but on that day she went to the pen pals section and opened several photos displayed. This started the ball rolling. Unable to pin which precise one though.Thought I'd let you all know. Thanks again.
