Possibility of more efficient visa runs?!?

Thai and Lao visa laws, help and advice...

PostAuthor: wokkawombat » August 25, 2005, 7:45 am

I thought I had a good grip on the complexities of the non immigrant O visa. I now have doubts...
Here are the facts as I understand them

1 My non imm O visa is a one year multiple entry which allows me unlimited entries for one year.

2 I am required to leave Thailand every 90 days and be restamped in giving another 90 days.

3 My visa expires 29 march 2006 and if I leave Thailand 2 weeks before that date and return before that date I will receive another 90 days from re entry date.

Am I right or wrong to assume from the posts on this subject that my Visa can be extended in Thailand. My visa is stamped 'Extension of stay not permitted". This stamp also appears on my other 2 multi entry non O visas.

sounds good to me, as long as you exit/return before visa expires, you get that 90 days. just don't forget to write visa number on arrive/departure card, although on new form i don't see it on departure card, but must be a spot on arrival half. i did not know that first time i used marriage visa and technically overstayed 2 months. but they waived the fine as it was obviously just a honest mistake.

Paul, on my TM6 I tick holiday, should I be ticking others on my TM6?

I will be shooting for a retirement visa either in Jan or feb. My pension is large enough to qualify me but I would prefer to go the 800k baht route.

A question on the 800k baht, the FLB forum "Experts"seem to think that most times immigration do not really care where the 800k came from. How closely do Nong Khai look at the money source or do they as a rule just accept the letter from the bank?

The reason I ask is that I have had approx 400k baht deposited in one account for over a year and approx 900k baht in another for about 6 months. I think I still have all the currency exchange documentation showing I changed AUD$ cash or AUD$ travellers cheques.

My current visa is a multiple entry one year Non Immigrant O valid till 29/3/06.

the financial requirements is and/or savings / earnings. so if your pension is enough, just use that, keep the savings in aussie bank, safer and better interest. the best here is 1.25 % fixed. they want the money in a thai bank, and the letter the bank gives you for immigrations, well mine did, showed deposits and total balance. not sure how your embassy handles earnings statement, but american embassy lets you swear to anything without paperwork to prove. that was the income statement i used, an honest one, plus i had enough in bank anyway, which i moved out to usa when i want back last month. so i'll just have statement next year and minimal in thai bank. i'll be there about same as you, mine expires something like feb 23

Hmm, no one seemed to answer the below

Am I right or wrong to assume from the posts on this subject that my Visa can be extended in Thailand. My visa is stamped 'Extension of stay not permitted". This stamp also appears on my other 2 multi entry non O visas.

I think that just means you need to get a new visa. I have the same except it is a "B" and it says nothing about extensions, so I will assume I can extend mine, for x days and then get a new one. :?: :?: 8)

John,
What I was asking is how you got the non-imm O (other) in the first place when you applied. Usually its for marriage to a thai, but can be for visiting friends/relatives or a couple of other things. this may dictate whether or not you can extend it and also the requirements in each category

A stamp in the passport should not be taken too literally by the way.
Most non-imm 0 visas are stamped employment prohibited , for example. however employment IS permitted if you obtain a work permit, so I guess it should read .......unless you .. blah blah blah !

Most important though is the category of O visa that you are on.

Paul,
I missunderstood you. My Non Imm O was issued for me to visit friends. I always have a couple of photo copies of Thai ex-girlfriends ID to show them at the consulate. This time when I showed them my lease on the house in Udon Thani they were not intersted in the pics.
Maybe "visiting friends" is why it is stamped "extension of stay not permitted". This is an integeral part of the visa stamp and not an over stamp.

I will get a letter declaring my pension from the veterans affairs in OZ, get it stamped at the Australian embassy and go for the retirement I think. Does the letter declaring income have to be translated into Thai? With the income letter and money in the bank I will have both bases covered. How current does the letter declaring income have to be, is a few months old acceptable.

John,

If you will send me an email I will send you the kit sent to me by the thai counsulate in Houston (but is for anyone) that is applying for a retirement visa. One thing is you must be over 50 years of age. It is all in PDF form and I do not know how to cut and paste it or I would and also it is quite a bit.

Like I said send an email and I will send it to you.
