The last time I was in Udon for a 3 month stay which was my second visit, I was more or less attached to my lady-Thai's skirt, sorry jeans, more or less literally because I can not ride a moped; she had to take me everywhere.
I have been to the NM for the meetings, and the Irish Clock for dinners a couple of times each. Glanced at the D&N after eating at the IC, don't think that it would be a place for me even after I regain my travel independence, the same for the night clubs. There are go-gos in Udon!? Where is Udon Center?
I have to find out where Nutty Park is because I owe stattointhailand a few for leading us to the Sappasin Village for a temporary stay.
With my lady-Thai, I like to eat at the pond-side restaurant, the first one on the left after you turn left into the first road after the road into Nong Song Rom from the Nong Khai road going north, by a petrol station, Esso, I think. Anybody knows what I am talking about? The best in Khao Pad Gai, Som Tam (Thai style), barbqued shrimp, and the silly girl insists on French fries. Not a watering hole or a drinking pad though, just relaxing.

Come on cryptic...in another thread (Indian Food) you talk about whinging English....well it seems the flip flops fit better on you..

And steady on Ivor Hardy you might get a few hearts pounding with a joint like that in Udon-Ville....but i am sure i might pop me head in the door just to see what the fuss would be all about....along with a few others i'll wager.

Me i usually start knocking them back at a Restaurant...then move on.

cryptic wrote:Just noticing that the originator of this little game, put the Irish Clock down in the multiple choice. Why didnt you put down something like Bars, you only name the Irish Clock in the whole scenario, so when the game is complete, guess who has the most points.....you guessed it IC.

There are a few more bars around town other than the IC, are you touting business for them btw or this is some sort of free advertising.

It is obvious to me that you are not familiar with the OP or probably any of us in this forum community,as it seems you only post negative comments about us and our posts. If you are not interested in helping, why don't you go play somewhere else? :?

Do you get your kicks by trolling and trying to wind others up? :?

Just a cryptic note to 'Cryptic"My interest was to establish what style establishment the members enjoy.Thankfully every one, with the exception of you, understood that.Doesn;t that tell you something? :-" [-(
Back to the poll. With almost 40 votes cast the preference seems to be, places that DON"T have girls available for OFF.Where we can take the wife or girlfriend without embarassment. Not be blasted by intrusive music, and have their own style of ambience, not the collective cacophony of a group.
It has occurred to me that maybe I should have added the Night market and Udon center together , as they are virtually the same in what they offer. However it is nice to see the members preference. If one was to do that it would be level pegging between them and the IC style place.Interesting as they are in different price brackets. Some members stating in posts that they like both on occassions, as I must admit I do.
So, in conclusion. Even with the devalued baht, most of us will pay more for our beer if it is served in an atmosphere conducive with our mood.If price was the main criteria we would all be sitting outside the local 711.

Well, when i am in Udon and alone, tend to drink in Irish Clock or occaisionally Orange Moon (pool Table). Might try Nutty park some time. When with TGF only drink when we eat, depends on where we eat; still exploring all those options. Bar Code used to be ok but not in November ( whatever name it used).

Ray, yes have eaten there at the Pond side restaurant off the Nong Khai road with TGF, food good and fish hungry!

I go to Harry's for a drink. If there's too much smoke in the place I go home, or to the Thai place at the end of my soi.

I don't go to any of the other places, except Irish Clock to eat, not drink.

I just want to say with all you forum members going to different bars and sampling the food & beverage
how come we never se you at the N/M get together ? it would be nice to put a face on those we chat
with here if you live out in the boonies but manage to make it in to the local watering holes why not come to the N/M or now the UD center for the get together and enjoy a cold or hot beverage of your choice
and they do have food and it is cheap & on the topic I voted D/N only because I can shoot a game of pool on a small table and have a glass of orange juice and joke with every one I know Now as for eating establishment I vote Irish Clock to be # 1 my reason is I never got sick from there food but have gotten sick from most of the other places I have eaten in sadly

I guess I'm the strange one here :freak: . I don't go for a drink just to 'go for a drink'. The drinking in my instance is a secondary action and often ends up being a soda rather than a beer or mixer. I go for the camaraderie or because there is a function to which I've been invited or have an interest in. Going out to 'have a drink' is, in my opinion, just a waste of time and money. If I NEED to have a drink, then there is something else that's akimbo. I have wine in the 'frige as well as a beer (the beer has been there for several months now) and liquor in the cabinet but, with the exception of the wine, this is just in case friends drop over and I need to have something to offer. When I was single I used to go out and often ended up having a drink but that wasn't the reason for 'going out'. It was more to seek 'partnership' and that meant looking in the local bars/pubs. As for the survey, there's not a place listed that I haven't been to but I didn't go there for a drink. Mostly I went there because I was curious and may or may not have had a drink.

Somewhere like Irish Clock

cryptic..............a little reading comprehension, not specifically the IC, but a relaxed atmosphere, maybe a few baht more, but if you try to actually read and comprehend the OP's poll, a different type venue than the rest listed.

](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

agree, why do you read and post to this forum, another to add to F & F, love that function.

there are actually 3 "night markets" now, Precha, the one the monthly meet ups are, is the night market on the 7-11 side of the road, Center Point is the one on the other side of the road, train station side. UD Center is the new 'tent city', which use to be the old parking lot, then vacant lot, now, tent city with parking available, across the street from Green Leif and Zap bbq. though not sure they would care for the 'night market' title, but basically all the same to a degree, beer, food, clothes and trinkets.

Precha has the large video screen/stage, Center point, not stage/video, UD Center also has stage in beer garden area. Center Point opening a bit earlier (4 ish)than the other 2 for food service, as not in the sun as Precha is (5:30 ish), and UD Center (6 ish) seems to open just a bit later than Precha.

 Actually not strange to me!That is the way things work in my life.I never go out with the idea of having a drink!I go out to meet up with others at some type of function and sometime drink or not!

I voted somewhere else because of that!
