No one mentions best bars for happy hours!! :-s The process of ordering your drinks during happy hour at happy hour prices and then having them brought out the rest of the night is brilliant for cheap drinking, unless you are trying to experience many bars.

Great idea... But sadly barkeeps in Udon have little vision and the little they have stems from avarice :guiness: :crying:

I voted nightclubs as i go out with expats and also thais, and the night clubs are enforcing the ' no smoking rules "

The major of expat bars are flouting the law and as OP has said Harrys gets full of smoke etc....

Do they have 'Happy Hours' in Udon Thani

very few to none offer 'happy hour', if they do, it's a minimal discount. Nong's Rib's used to, RIP. that's the only one that comes to mind. has noticed a couple signs in the past, 5/10 discount for early afternoon, but nothing like in the states, where 2 for 1 from 4pm to 7pm at many locations, some offering free buffet or finger food. i miss them, as i used to get done work on 1st shift at 2:30 pm and ready to go, discounted food and drinks and in bed before 9 pm.

open this thread and forgot what it was about and that i posted once already. some more thoughts.

Arena Bar/rest..............for overlooking NPJ Park and sunset, 3rd floor (no utility poles/wires to obstruct view/pics), pitchers of heiny used to be 150 baht, eat first, as food is just ok, and mid-high end.

Glen's Sandwich Shop..........for same, but up close people watching, late afternoon, easier on the budget, light food menu, or do a couple if hungry, nothing there to break the bank. beer starting at 55, i think, Lg Leo.

Preacha NM ...........for evening eye candy, inexpensive beer and variety of food item, all reasonably prices, negative for parking. also tent city at new UD Center, starting to come into it's own.

Irish Clock............for indoor, relax pub atmosphere, nice background music, and large tv for keeping up on news or sports, tasty filling food at good prices. better selection of beers in udon, guinness/kilkenny and tiger on tap, and all your local brewed favorites. smoking section outside street side, or quiet in salas in back courtyard.

Nobi's .................for all things german/meats/potatoes, and some tasty import beers and wine, mid end, along with local favorites. outdoor, but relaxed, and smoking permitted curbside.

These would and are my preference for alcohol consumption for various moods stated. any or all are guaranteed not to disappoint. all centrally located and easy to get to if local or playing tourist. plan on a few too many, cheap accomodations aren't hard to find, baht bus to you destination, at worst 100 tuk tuk to return home,i within ring road, if not, plan ahead, get a room, save a hassle, an arrest, or a life.

enjoy.
