I tried to find out this information from bar owners last night and the closest estimate I got was April - possibly around the 20th (ie after Songran) - but it was as if not many people know???
So who DOES know?

Not sure this is what we are talking about, but I heard that the golden whatever their name is, have been delayed for 15 or 20 days, maybe something to do with the political climate here was inferred :?

Very good post Dean and welcome to the forum. You already have my interest. How far is this hotel located from Robinsons Mall. Looked at map but do not find. Maybe you could put the coordinance from the Udonmap.com map.

Welcome to the forum Dean. Anyone is welcome to post. Your post is very informative and will be read by many.

Thanks.

To Lee,

Maybe the post and replys need to be moved to it's own thread as Dean has supplied good info and would not want it lost on a thread with another topic.

Thanks

Brian

No need for PM Dean (and by the way welcome)

I will be vacating a house at the end of April, 4000B a month, superb non interfering and very accomadating Landlord, 3 beds, large living area, in fact a typical ring road property. If you are still looking then, let me know.

Likewise, nothing to gain personally (it's a shame that disclaimer needs to be added , but it does unfortunately)

Thanks, John/Yorkman- Yes ,I would be interested in seeing your house sometime(Price sounds good)-I am not in a rush to find a place. The Hotel is fine for now. Helps me to get acquainted with Udon and my bearings. If the right place comes along at the right price then of course I will jumo on it-ahahhaha. But, I will not hold my breathe. JUST TAKE IT EASY :-) sabai-sabai

If they are coming in May & stay for 7-8 weeks, should I be worried about hotel rooms for end of June? I had previously read in another thread that they would be gone by then. Since I am almost totally clueless about all things Udon (not as much thanks to you guys!), can you help me out here, too? We booked a room for the first weekend we are there, but nothing for the rest of the trip. I want this to be one less thing to worry about! ](*,)

I would think if the exercise starts in May then they will be in udon for preparations 1-2 weeks before May.In total I would say from 15th -20th April to the middle June.

Lila,
It appears I am in a similar situation to yourself.. regarding hotels, etc.
I too have just booked a room for the first 2 nights of my next visit.. mid April - mid July.
I understand that the "Green plague" :-s predominantly infests the top end hotels, etc.... and, although I usually stay at Charoensri Grand or Ban Chiang (first 2 days), I have decided on JAN Condotel this time... (after reading the comments of other forum members, and then sending my wife round to check it out).
I shouldn't think you would have any real problems with accom, unless of course you intend staying in top end places.
There are many good apartments to be had in Udon, (AEK Udon, Heritage, Udoncabana, etc.) from around 4,000 Baht/month upwards.
April is usually a busy time, as it's Songkran.. but I can't see June will be a problem.

Thanks all(again)!

We are only going to be in Udon for 9 days & are staying out at the Thomas Resort for the first couple of nights. I guess we'll stick with the original plan of wait & see!

Yes we the "Green plague" usually infest hotels that are contracted for all service members during the period of the exercise. Depending on the size of the force, 2 or 3 hotels maybe contracted. The selected hotels are the only authorized billeting for the visiting forces. I'm sure you find adequate accommodation, unfortunately the prices will probably be higher due to the infestation of the "Green palgue".

Hmmm.. appears I may have caused offence with my "Green plague/Green palgue" comment :?: No offence was intended, I actually picked up the term elsewhere on the forum...

Welcome back, Rito!

It was referred to as the "Green Machine" when I served back in the middle ages, eons before the desert cammies. Any information that you can pass along regarding start/stop dates for Cobra Gold or contracted hotels? Planning a trip but trying to avoid staying at the in-laws unless absolutely necessary in the unlikely event that hotels are solidly booked.
