5 Year Thai Driving Licence

PostAuthor: lee » December 3, 2008, 11:53 am

Just recently I applied for a new 5 year driving license at AEK Udon. The whole process was pretty straight forward with the correct documents i.e old license, work permit and passport, and received my new license within minutes.

Later I realized that they had entered a completely different date of birth, so today I visited the office to ask them to change it. I was a little puzzled how they could get it wrong, after all I did give them a copy of my passport, old license and work permit with the correct D.O.B. However the lady at the office said it wasn't her fault but instead a fault of the main Bangkok office, apparently they had the wrong data on their computer. She insisted that I apply for a new one and pay the fee again.

It's not a great deal of money but not really fair IMO. Surely it's their mistake and they should waive the fee on a replacement. Oh well T.I.T.

I got my five year license last December and they also got my birthdate wrong by two days. I have no intention of bringing THEIR mistake to their attention especially if it will cost me more money. If BIB should question it (highly unlikely) I will go, " #-o , your bad!".

Guessing they put an incorrect year for your DOB, Lee?

You guys got nothing on the 5 year license I got there.

I had recently moved and told them my new address. That was a terrible mistake. I was there 3+ hours until they figured out how to change my address. There were multiple calls to and from their tech support. And then when I get the new license it doesn't even have an address on it, unlike the old one.

My birthdate had been wrong on my initial license, so had that corrected at the same time. That they seemed to know how to do.

The best part was a decent lunch at the AEK Udon cafeteria.

Lee
Apart from the work permit what documents do you need to renew a 5 year licence and is it correct that it's best to wait til after the current licence has expired before renewing?
