you all talk about security block walls steel gates cctv lights & cameras large & small dogs
with all this security what does it do to your own life style ? do you like living this way ?
Pole I am, no rambo like you I am old but I will not live my life in fear. we all know
locks only keep honest people honest. if they want to rob you they will find a way
so I will save all that money by not buying any of that crap. you see I have nothing of great value
the most expensive item in my home is my computer. so am I going to spend all that money locking my self in to avoid a burglar. my answer is NO why because burglar are afraid if not they would enter when your home. so now that a different situation now that becomes a life threatening situation now
you do what is necessary that is KILL the SOB or die trying or hide under the bed it your choice
I have all ready made my choice if that happens. just remember this he is only a man. and your a superman when you have a 2 foot machete in your hand and your wife holds a can of mace with a
tazzer . the total cost is nothing

Funny how you spend so much time on here with us riff-raff rather than spending your time being intellectually stimulated by the 'indigenous personnel'... :-k

It's up to you, Ron. Do we like living like this? Yeah, we do. Property is secure whether we're here or not. Dogs? I've always had dogs regardless of where we lived and will always own one. My choice. Apparently you don't like dogs? Your choice. You're right that you're an old man, older than me in fact, but neither one of us is a Rambo. Your contingency plan is to wave around a machete and a can of mace? OK, those are your choices. Me, I'm a Detroit street raised guy, served in the Marines and can handle myself so I'm never worried. Anyway, we don't have to agree. Good luck to you.

747man, no such thing as an ex-Marine! I'm a Marine for life. aznyron was never a Marine. :D

No they're not.

You wife can legally own a gun and have a gun licence.

You might want to wipe the handle before handing it back to the wife after shooting an intruder though. :)

I'm aware of it but it is a lot of red tape for her to go through to get the license. The thought has crossed my mind more than once. :D

no I was not a marine I was in the navy. Ron (pole) I am also street kid but I never flaunted my
fighting abilities because there always some one better than you. But I will say this I will not run from any one. I have said this in the past so I will repeat my self it not about winning it about HONOR
I also was heavy construction worker (carpenter) and Vol. Firemen so I spent my entire life do physical work so I am no slouch and I still keep my self as fit as I possibly can. but we are getting off topic and Arjay will be in here warning us so it best I get back to the topic and my answer is yes I feel safe here
no different than my home in the USA my only point was why are you spending all that money to protect a few items which can be replaced. the only problem with a break in is the damage they do not the crap they steal

Well, the walls were probably expensive but wouldn't know since previous owner put those up. Don't think the rest of it was as expensive as you may think. Mostly grills for windows/doors in smaller house and spikes on the walls. Plus a few floodlights. Anyway, spending the money part was a personal decision made by the wife and I and really not your concern.

the topic is do you feel safe so I posted my opinion as for you spending your money true it is no concern of mine and I was not telling you or any one else how to spend there money on feeling secure. I expressed my opinion and that is what this forum is all about. I made my self clear as to why I will not buy into all those security gadgets. or dogs. I feel safe except crossing the road when idiots drive at night with out lights on
that scares me more than a break in.

No worries, it was just a little banter I had going with Polehawk.

(sounds like something the Saint would say...)

Going back to feeling secure in Udon, my Outlaws are very insecure with broken glass around the walls and the decorative bars on the windows, not to mention six dogs that bark at all hours. I keep on telling them that the bars have to go as the windows are an egress point in case of a fire but they're not convinced. They are very paranoid about being burgled.

Having recently travelled around the country for 5 weeks l expected to see violence and aggression as experienced in Australia. The only time l witnessed any violence was at the Udon Race Track where a disgruntled punter or horse owner decided to seek retribution from the winning jockey. The local police intervened and dragged the punter/horse owner off the jockey. It appeared on the surface that the jockey was not supposed to win.
On a serious note, if you are flambouyant with your money, trouble usually follows. If you are conservative and understated in appearance and manner, you tend to stay off the radar when would be thieves are casing their next victim(s) I guess it is "up to you". Universal precautions should be the order of the day, secure the house on departure, a perimeter search on return and then secured on retiring for the night. It would indeed be sad to hear of an expat. rotting in the Bangkok Hilton because he took the law into his own hands.

Universal precautions should be the order of the day

keep your wits about you when out and about, little common sense, big city wits, don't do what you wouldn't in home country. keep the house buttoned up, make the other guys an easier target. thieves are lazy and access the risks...............next. 8)

TRUST NO ONE, most are inside jobs, as mentioned, don't flaunt it, even to friends and relatives...........have that pointed out to the little lady. "oh, he just bought me..............." , the friend/relative she told me be safe, but the other one, her friend just happen to mention it to her friend, while having the hair done with 3 other strangers in the shop are licking their fingers :fryingpan: 8)
