Does 'Cold War' service count towards VFW membership? I did 22 years with the US Navy (1958 to 1980) providing airborne ASW surveillance in the Med. and North Atlantic, but am not sure if I'm eligible? I think possibly not but can only ask... Why?

From: http://www.vfw.org/

Eligibility - If you have received a campaign medal for overseas service; have served 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days in Korea; or have ever received hostile fire or imminent danger pay, then you are eligible.

No Auxiliary that I know of.

Meetings can be fun, or otherwise. It's up to the people attending. All members are welcome to attend and I encourage you to do so. Afterwards you can have lunch with the guys you like to eat with.

Seems that members have been having lunch at locales other than the Charoen Hotel. Some go to California Cafe, and others have been going to Nong's Ribs after the meetings, and perhaps other places as well.

Lunch can also bring indigestion or just plain inebriation.

Enjoy

well the American Legion will accept you as long as you have a honorable Discharge
as for being awol it depends on the time limit I over stayed my liberty by a couple of hours was disciplined restricted to the base for two weeks as for sea duty you don't want to miss the ship when it leaves port that is serious I am a life member in the DAV also was a member of the American Legion failed to keep my dues up besides I never went to the meeting i also did not go to the DAV meeting to much hype for me members wearing there medals on there caps etc it reminds me of the guy who made love to the prettiest girl in town and the next day he brag about it to every one

as you have a honorable Discharge

even a general discharge w/honorable service, like me.  8)

VFW party

there is not, but a private american citizen is having one, by invitation only. his party, his house, his rules, have to be american. since you damn brits and aussies always invite everyone, think i'll stick with you guys at the night market. our countrymen can fight and die together, we can party together. just my opinion, and not intended to start a debate. obviously a private party, so be it, and his right. should be fun, heard last years' was.

see the rest of you freedom fighters tomorrow. 8)

Are you eligible if you're a non-American but satisfy the criteria above, excepting Korea (Brits and ANZACS are always knocking about somewhere when the Yanks are kicking somebody's posterior)?
