Problems accessing the internet[TOT]

PostAuthor: RALPHCUSENS » October 3, 2007, 7:11 pm

Since Saturday I have been experiencing severe problems accessing the internet.

I use TOT as my server, has anyone else been experiencing problems?

I'm on TT&T and today it's been very slow with several time-outs, the past few days hasn't been as reliable as it usually has.

Yes read in the Nation or BKK post, In BKK, an excavator cut through a fiber optic cable. TOT reported 50% down on the internet. But my connection (TT&T) was a bit slow for a day or two. Everything fine tonight.

Yep did a speed test this morning and I was only running at 5% service quality.
Up to 48% tonight so still not great but better.

God I need to get out more!

Thanks for the responses, I'm glad that it appears to be the server, and not my system!

Thanks again

Ok, Monday there was an accident that cut the main cable for TOT. Service to 50% of the customers was unavailable. This I found out from the wife when she found it on the internet at www.adslthailand.com . It was suppose to be back up and running full service by midnight Monday.....guess that it wasn't...TIT and TITOT....... 8)

I think TOT owns all the fiber optics and leases to TT&T and other operators.

The following is from the Bangkok Post.

COMMUNICATIONS / BROADBAND INTERNET

TT&T threatens countersuit over network
SRISAMORN PHOOSUPHANUSORN

TT&T Plc is threatening to countersue TOT Plc for damages if the state telecom enterprise presses its claim that the provincial operator is using ''smuggled'' broadband interconnection points. The TOT board decided on Sept 12 to sue TTT Broadband for allegedly using its parent's network, which belongs to TOT under a build-transfer-operate contract, without acknowledgment by TOT.

The state agency claimed that TT&T had no right to allow others to use network assets unless the company pays 19% of the resulting revenue to TOT.

TOT gave TTT Broadband seven days to stop using the system and enter revenue-sharing talks, and said the private company failed to meet the deadline.

Prasitchai Kritsanayunyong, senior vice-president for corporate finance of TT&T, said TOT had no real intention of settling the problem since it never allowed the company to enter talks.

He said that using TOT access points was not considered a criminal act. ''If TOT lacks credible evidence to prove its allegations, the petition [to the court] would be a zero-sum game,'' he said.

''And if TOT files a petition, TT&T is ready to claim for corporate damages against the state agency in consequence of our share value reduction. The amount of damage costs will be claimed at the same figure as our share price declines.''

Mr Prasitchai insisted that TT&T had the right to seek benefits from its fixed-line network according to the concession contract it signed 15 years ago. He said his company had proposed a rental fee to TOT but had received no response.

Under the principle of the revenue-sharing contract, TT&T needed to inform TOT before using the fixed network or installing broadband points. It also has to pay 19% of the revenue to TOT.

Mr Prasitchai acknowledged the principle but said TOT had the right to collect only the lost revenue from the use of broadband access points, instead of pursuing a criminal case.

He also shrugged off the TOT challenge to revoke the concession contracts of TT&T and TTT Broadband, saying the state agency would need to pay out more than 20 billion baht in compensation.

I don't know if your situation is similar to mine, but I had intermittent service from TOT for months, with outages from one to several hours, many times a week. I was reluctant to call them, knowing that the problem would resolve itself eventually. When I did call, the guy who answered the phone would say something about resetting something or other, which lead me to believe me to believe that it was a "soft" problem.

Eventually, I started calling TOT whenever the ADSL was down, and after a few days, they sent out a young engineer (or technician) who. within a day, found that I had a bad line pair (the physical pair of wires from the nearest exchange to my house). The line pair had been shorting to that of another subscriber. They switched to another line pair, and except for one even with a poor signal a couple of weeks ago, and the very big fiber optic cable disruption a couple of weeks ago, we have had continuous service for just over a month.

My advice: Let them know every time you have a problem.

It was on and off last night, finally dropping out for several hours.

It seems to be back to "normal", what ever that means.
