I completed radiation therapy last year for prostate cancer and my PSA is down to 0.16 (incredible - it's never been that low).
I used to have a DRE and a PSA test once a year and two years ago I reminded my Doc to include it in my annual check up and lab work. When I went in to review the results he gave me a clean bill of health and told me that everything was normal. He also gave me a copy of the lab report.
Fortunately, I read the report and noticed that there were no PSA numbers. When I questioned it he said "Oh, I'm sorry - They must have forgotten to do it

". They drew blood, at my insistance, and when the results came back my PSA had risen from 2.3 to 4.6 in the past year. They sent me for a "Free" PSA test and those results came back at 10%, way below the 25% minimum that is recommended.
I went to a urologist and when the biopsy results came back, my PSA was up to 11.2 and I was told that some (but not all) of the biopsy cores had returned positive with a "Gleason 8" rating (very aggressive). However, after immediate MRIs, Bone Scans and other tests it was determined that, although aggressive, the cancer was contained within the prostate.
The first line of treatment was hormone therapy to lower my testosterone (the cancer cells feed on it). An implant was put in my arm and my testoerone came down to 20. Let me explain something: A castrated male typically has a testosterone level of 50, because not all of your testosterone is produced in the gonads. My ability to perform went out the window and,
weirdest thing of all, I didn't even fancy it.
After about six months, which included a trip to visit my brother in Udon, the radiation treatment began, every day for three months. I didn't have any major side effects from the radiation and, when it was over they removed the hormone implant. Since then my PSA level just keeps on dropping and my testosterone is slowly rising. Unfortunately, I now have my mojo or libido (desire) back but I can't get it up. Well, not adequately anyway. Viagara and Cialis don't cut the mustard and we'll just have to wait and see.
It has been quite an experience, an eye opener, and I cannot stress regular check ups enough. Have your PSA checked regularly and, if it goes above 3.0 to 3.5, try and find some place that can do a "Free" PSA test. The annual DREs are important as well. If you can find a female doctor with long fingers, good for you

. Otherwise, you'll get used to a guy doing it. If the free PSA is low also, get a biopsy done. They put me to sleep and it wasn't too bad an experience.
By The Way: Maybe I could take this opportunity of promoting a new product that I am selling. Keeping your rear end clean is important too, to minimize colon and bowel disorders. If you can't get used to the Thai hand-held bathroom toilet sprays (I never felt comfortable with them), you might want to try a Bidet Adapter. You simply mount it under the toilet seat, remove your old hand-held spray unit and reconnect the flexible hose to the Bidet Adapter. You'll find the bidet adapter much easier and cleaner to use. I find the hand-held sprays get more water on the bathroom floor than anywhere else. You can check them out on my web-site:

THAI_BIDETS@BIDETS4SALE.COM. Please let me know if you think they will sell in Thailand. Thanks.
Cheers, and keep your pecker up,
John.
