There are only 4 teams on any night, I am looking for 2 more Captains, once the 4 positions are taken I will post the date of the 1st event. Hopefully next Thursday (19th)

Papers marked, scores updated, reveal correct answers

9:15

With large bottles of beer starting at 50bt, in theory a continuously winning team could eat and drink for free every Thursday night.

[/b]Captains are responsible for…[/b]
Giving their team a unique name
Rallying their contestants to show on-time for the night’s event (min. 2 –max. 4**)
Team contestants can change as much as the Captain wishes, however once a contestant has played under one Captain they cannot play for another Captain, unless their original Captain no longer hosts a team

** The 4 contestants includes the Captain

Think you can Captain a team of intellectuals, be quick and give me your name.

Just want to be a contestant give me a call and I'll try and hook you up with a Captain.

Some Team Name Examples...
The Antique Roadshow
The Trivial Pursuits
The Wise Owls
Sports-R-us
The legendaries
The Three wise men
3 wise men & a dog
2 pints of lager and a Packet of crisps
The 4 wise Monkeys (see, hear, speak, shag no evil)
Master-Minds
Wise Guys

I've had a few responses so far but still nothing on the Team Captains, so still 2 places up for grabs.

For you guys that emailed me, I will allocate you to a team once all the Captains + Team names are in, and I know who's short of contestants.

To get you thinking...
Every round will have 5 category of questions:
Entertainment (Music, TV, Film, celebrities)
Sport
History
Geography (we should all be good at this being so worldly travelled!)
General knowledge

After the 1st event, and seeing how quick everything goes down, I will try to add a special category round each evening. The subject will be given the week before, allowing everyone to go away and research it, with use of internet that should be easy.

Special categories could be (just examples!)

The European Union Member states
The US of A
Currencies around the world
The history of Mclaren
Hits from the 80s
John Wayne Movies

The list is endless, but it gives you an idea of how you could easily research and become very knowledgable in the course of a week.

So the quiz night is good to go this Thursday night (26th)

Teams and Captains are

The 4 Brain Cells - (C)Greg Gilbert - 5 yrs experience at the local Dog and Duck

Simple Minds - (C)Brian Williams - A general knowledge genius with a broad range including music and sport, one to watch!

The Trivial Pursuers - (C)John Butler - A few years experience (personally) and comes with a good solid team with over 10yrs experience between them.

The Misfits - Aptly named as the team has derived from many sources, having not yet met the Captaincy will be decided on the night.

There is plenty of room for spectators, anyone else (who's name I have not yet had) interested in participating - please turn up, there are sure to be a couple of no-shows on any night.

Did you miss the first quiz? your loss!! A good night was had by all - good grub, good beer, good fun - what more could one ask for? Glyn worked hard to keep order - he managed admirably in the face of adversity !!! The winners on the night (trivial pursuers) made an impressive show by beating the other teams by eighteen points - revenge is sweet though, and the Simple Minds will swot up this week to rise to the challenge. Thanks to Glyn and his staff for making it an enjoyable evening - long may it continue. A few more players/spectators wouldn't go amiss - come on - get those brain cells re-activated!!

Thanks for the vote of confidence Cueball. I thoroughly enjoyed the night, thanks to all the colourful characters that showed and made it memorable.

Shame on the 4 Brain Cells, apparently they made a scheduled stop off at a wedding party promising only a flying visit, upon noticing a free bar flowing like Niagara Falls they couldn't tear themselves away, and I had to make do with a Dear john (via txt of all methods) [-X . They've promised to be there next week.

Good job Trivial Pursuers, they didn't just win - they annihilated the opposition (48, 30, 30) and walked away each 200bt heavier than when they walked in =D> =D> =D> =D> .

Remember it's not just free food you get, my beer is the cheapest of all bars 70bt big leo and 55bt San-migel (not to be compared to your little corner shops - remember it's horses for courses). So those that like drinking in modern comfortable bars but don't like being ripped off, Thurday night is now quiz night at The Englishman's Retreat. It'll be what we make it, but so far it's looking good! :drunk:

Last week's (week 2) quiz went well, finally got up to the 4 teams, and the scores on the doors were a lot closer at the end of four gruelling rounds. Lowest - Misfits - 58, Simple minds - 60, previous week's winners Trivial Pursuers - 68, and the Brain cells came in top of the class with 70.

We still need more regular attendance (expats), this is very different to any other night on offer around Udon, a perfect night for the married men that don't want to be lead into temptation on the streets of Udon, yet want to get out and socialize.

Next quiz night Thursday 12th March

Thursday 12 March...
A good night 24 people in attendance, it seems Udon expats really needed something to occupy their minds, esp. the brits (90%), but we mustn't forget the The Pub Quiz originated in Britain, I'm not sure if it spread the same way in other countries.

Only 8 points in it, from the wooden spoon holders to the prize winners - Trivial Pursuers (2 out of 3 ain't bad!!).

Thursday 19th March (no.4)...
Scores on the doors even closer this week with only 6 points separating all the teams, winners Simple Minds - well done chaps enjoy your loot (800bt of drink money):D

Still looking for more regular players. Very poor showing from Udonmap forum, only 2 guys, but 2 very good players none-the-less (see brains-computers, computers-brains sort of go hand-in-hand).
