Rabies Shots. Costs?

PostAuthor: Mr Natural » April 1, 2008, 4:59 pm

This question could just as well be places under the "WBU" or "testing your girlfriend string".
My GF recently asked for money to help her pay for a series of rabies shots for her son who was bitten by a stray dog. She took him to Wattana rather than the government hospital because (according to her) the wait was too long and the treatment would be 10 shots at the gov hospital and only 5 shots at Wattana.
Does anyone know what the cost of rabies shots here should be?
I could of course ask to see the receipt, but do not want to show any mistrust at this point. The boy does have a nasty bite on his hand and she has never given me any "sick water buffalo" type stories in the past. But the amount she asked for I thought was a bit steep for a Thailand hospital.

I can't remember exactly here, though I recollect they were expensive, - I think about 800-1000 baht an injection. The first also included something else, probably tetanus.

The full course was about 5 injections, but I called it a day after the second or third, as I was suffering no ill affects and the dog was still alive, which was IAW (in accordance with) the guidance notes.

My course of treatment was about 3 years ago in Mission Hospital Phuket, if that helps give you a perspective. :D

Thanks arjay, that fits what she's asking for. Once again I've caught her telling the truth!
Guess I'm just paranoid from hearing all the horror stories about Thai/Farang relationships.

It is not a bad thing to be vigilant about your relationship, especially for the first year of being together fulltime!Trust should be earned while learning about each other and each others culture!

If you are a paranoid personality,it will show in many other ways, but for the time being, give yourself a pat on the back for paying attention!

Trust is an essential element in a sincere and good relationship, but we don't give it to strangers or we are foolish and in some cases ,bankrupt! So get to know each other, improve communication, keep control of your finances especially!Trust comes with time and experience together. Those that are not patient, get what they get!Sometimes good, sometimes bad!But since security is the main and initial reason she is with you,the bad can be devastating!

It is a good thing to check with experienced individuals when you are unsure!

I 'll be darn if I can understand what saint means with his comment! Is he sad about the horror stories or sad that you have read them?Maybe he will enlighten us! :D

Well said Stan. :D I couldn't agree more.

No harm in being careful or vigilant. I don't call that paranoia.

"Pride goes before a fall", as I am sure many will confirm.

I prefer the "look before you leap" approach. :D

If you get bitten by a dog,the first thing you should do is get the dog captured so that it can be check for rabies! It could save you a lot of pain, expense and unnecessary shots!
