Hi there ! ,
Thanks for the reply !

Without wishing to sound ' too dense ' could you elaborate ! .

justan, If you consider it a gift to the Thai you won't have to deal with a sup-prize/disappointment later.

hey justan, don't take offense, but as it seems you do things spontaneously without a whole lot of experience/thought/investigation, and no, pointers from forum idiots like myself don't count. you are stepping into a mind field here. the experienced expats aren't even sure of things lately, especialy since coup ater coup, laws here are created and enforced at anytime and at anyone's whim.

so slow down, especially since you have never even been here. rent rent rent. don't buy or tie yourself down to anything as you may change your mind at any time. i've been here few years, and if circumstances didn't dictate my situation, i've would of changed my mind and thoughts or acted on many different options, and i consider myself fairly level headed, ok, you guys can stop laughing. i still think about options, but am pre destined for the next 10 yrs.

get here first for an extended stay, and you'll understand what's going on. good luck and have fun if you make it here.

Building Stuff is not low prices now.
So 100% talk to the Banks in Udon first.

We got our shophouse from Kasikorn Bank, Ban Houy Branch they even threw in one rai of land in Khon Kaen, and the services of Kasikorns lawyer who kindly done all the paperwork for us.
Just go in and ask.

You can Buy a nice Bit land for 180.000 to 250.000 with a Shed on It.
Put in a pump and Some power you can live ok
Pay 230 Bhats a Day and Build a Block House for 100.000 so you can get your low cost house.

if you are Happy Here Buy the land and Build your Small house. you Dont have to Bother about Leaving it When you Die as its low Value
you cant Take your Money with you.

Renting Cost you every month as well so not long till the 3000 Per month Add up
ok Bye for now

Buy from The Bank They Have lots land at Real good Prices Estage agents Will Sting you
The Bank will do the legal work for under 3000. if you ask

Justan
Take your time buddy, Falung cannot own land in Thailand, and we have all seen to many falung come here and spend 2-4,000,000 bt on a new house, car and motorbike under their wife/girlfriends name and within 1-2 years balling their eyes out in bar because they have just lost all their retirement savings.

In Udon you can rent good western style houses approx 2500-6,000 bt per month.

If ya money is burning a hoel in your pocket invest into something like rubber or palm oil and wait a few years, then you can have a nice passive income 10,20,30,40,000 bt per month. And retire comfortably.

Another thinking! When you relocate here your visa will most likely have financial requirements. Your cost of living (depending on life style) will probably be less than the visa requirements, so renting isn't really that bad here.
