Justan,
Are you aware of the laws relating to property ownership in Thailand?

As you have never been to Thailand before, my advise would be to rent a place to start with, (from as little as 2,500 THB/month).

yes rain on the roof in the dead of night, fantastic, i used to love the koh samui bungalow days, wind rain and the occasional thud and crash of coconuts falling from the trees. :D

Oh yes the tin roof, with the sound of the birds stomping about on top.
The outside toilet and the gaps between the breeze blocks, and the tin roof, the kids would peep in and watch you trying to take a $hit. Trying is the word, the first time when you try and get a decent angle of attack when dropping your load with your pants around your ankles. With loose bowels.
I was always amazed how the women would go into the lavvy, and emerge without a hair out of place.

The cold water shower,( Plastic Scoop) and trying to shave with no mirror.

Cooking on a charcoal filled terracotta bucket.

As Farang says, it was fun and a big adventure at the time.

Prender88, In the US people spend big bucks to create this experience - they call it camping. Been there done that;o) Now, for me, an air-conditioned room with no remotes, is roughing it.

I agree with Stevo. I worry that Justan does not realize he can not buy a house, can not buy land, can not work and can not stay more than a very limited number of days. Best to rent a nice room place and enjoy a nice vacation.
