Realty in Udon... Help !

PostAuthor: Alex » May 10, 2009, 11:45 am

Hi everybody !
Looking for my next living place in Udon, I would like your advices about "good" real estate agents.
I found some offices on net, but they only have 2 or 3 offers. I also found some ads, but nobody answers, or the picture is not real, or the bulding is a hovel... #-o
I live in Bangkok and Udon is pretty far !
Thank you very much.
Alex

Yes Aardvark, I did, but unsuccessfully. In fact, I found this forum by reading the ads !
I want to buy a 3/4 floor building, in Udon town centre, or a store with a condo upstairs.
Thx,
Alex

Forget the realtors. They have very limited offerings mostly geared towards foreigners and priced accordingly.

Come to Udon. Decide the area where you want to buy and just start asking around in that area. You'll soon have people knocking at your door or calling you offering to show you potential places. Most of them won't own the place and will be acting on a contingency basis as they will get a small commission if they help facilitate a sale for the owner.

If you have a Thai person who can front for you, you may avoid some 'special farang prices'.

I was gobsmacked upon moving to Udon three years ago when I finally slept off my jetlag and asked my wife how we go about finding a house. Yellow pages? Realator? Classifieds in the newspapers? Online listings?

"Get in the car and drive around," was her reply.

Fifty years behind the curve. At least.

Welcome Alex,
Drive around some of the Moobaans, and see for yourself, and you'll get a feel of the place, packs of dogs, noisy sound systems, low flying military planes, slums, or car repair shops just in front of estate entrance.
The Banks here in Udon have lists of repos on their books, another good source.
