Remove adds from Firefox 3.0.5.

PostAuthor: Thai_1_On » January 13, 2009, 12:27 am

OK for the most part I like Firefox BUT, this damn top adds are p*ssing me off. I've tried remove add or something like that but no success. I'm on the verge of going back to MSE if I can't find a way to kill theses adds.

seems all the search's I've done says 3.0.5. has no add-ons to remove these damn adds. How do I switch off Java in this browser?

I am running 3.0.5 and have no problems with ads at all. I do run the "Adblock Plus" add on though so maybe that is preventing it.

Thank you Bob, that was the answer =D> So next time I come to the "big city" a big bottle of Tiger Beer is on me.

I haven't had a Tiger Beer in sometime now. Seems village life is rubbing off on me now, I've acquired a taste for Issan Beer and Lao Kaow now :drunk:

Just our of curiosity have you done a full security scan of your pc? i.e. antivirus and adaware. I am using firefox 3.0.5 with no problems, even with the addons

It may be that your browser or your computer itself has been affected by a virus, and in that case, the ads are not the regular pop-ups that Firefox is equipped to deal with. If you haven't already done so, you might want to perform a virus scan with up-to-date virus definitions.

I think Rick is probably correct Thai_1.
If not a virus then certainly "spyware". I use "Threatfire" a free program from PC Tools as well as AVG. You would have to run a scan (which takes a bit of time) when you downloaded but after that it just lurks in the background & stops malware, spyware & viruses as they try & invade.

Can be downloaded for free here
http://www.threatfire.com/download/
But there are many other products that do the same thing....

Thanks for the tips guys I'll give it a try. I have private classes tonight so I'll let the virus scanner run while I'm out teaching tonight.

The culprit has been found...turns out it is a proxy server software program I use from time to time. See I live here on the school campus and get my house, utilities, and internet for free. The down side is going through the school server can be a little dodgy at times, hence forth the need of the proxy server. So I guess to pay for this little service I get bombed with adds. So now I only run the proxy software when the schools server gets it's nose in a twitch and won't let me surf in peace.

No worry Bob, that offer of Leo still good when I get to town ;)
