This is the first time I have posted anything on any forum I am thinking of retiring to Thailand and I am not totally clear on the financial requirements
Some say 65000 baht income per month plus 800000 in the bank
Others say just 800000 inthe bank
Can anyone clarify this

65k per month, or 800k in the bank, or a combination of both eg 30k per month plus 440k in the bank.

Suggest you look at Thai Visa - all the information you will ever need.

it is and/or figure totally 800,000 per year for income/savings either or both. unless using bkk immigrations, some offices want you to have a working bank account, regular deposit and withdrawals. some mistakingly would like 66666 monthly deposit or 1/12 of 800,000, but i believe this has been pointed out and they no longer require that. i have 200,000 balance in thai bank, and use a working dep/with of approx 51,000 baht a month, with income statement of over 800,000 baht a year. so i show the 800k in thailand during the year. so, what ever you lack in income, you should have in the thai bank. if not here and getting you first retirement visa in home country, you should have less problem, as they will not require you to have a working thai bank account, so your income statement will have to be the 800k baht. i'm an usa citizen. for best info, simply contact the embassy you will be using and clarify with them. i've not heard any horror stories from home countries. just in thailand, some offices don't exactly interpet the rules the same. bkk seems to be consistant with applying rules. nong khai immigration office, the one most in udon use, which has an office in local hospital on mon/fri and i might add the best immigration staff in thailand, i'll be seeing you next month :D , like you to have a working thai bank account, with a letter verify funds in bank are specifically written funds are from out of country, and letter must be address to Nong Khai Immigrations. now this past 3 months, i took the extra precaution of depositing 67000 baht a month for past 3 months, since changes in oct, just in case.

it's actually a very easy process, especially if done in home country. once having your first, the rest are easy, just make sure paperwork in order of immigration office you are using.
