'Retirement Visa'

Thai and Lao visa laws, help and advice...

PostAuthor: aznyron » July 21, 2008, 11:52 am

John you are not wrong and you do not need the 800K if your pension exceeds 65K a month
proof from your embassy is required to get a ret/visa on your pension also you must have a thai bank account. there is no set limit for deposit or withdrawals. that only applies to marriage visa
of 40K being deposit in to your account I had a ret/visa now i am on a married visa

John - the rules do state 90 days, but for the past two years I have gone in a couple of weeks early just in case there are any problems. Both times, the required 800,000 minimum was in my account for about 75 days and I still got the extension.

I figured worst case I would be told to come back after I met the 90 day timeframe. But, surprisingly, no problem. And both times I was meeting with Kuhn Sabai, man on the far right!

Bama my understanding is that they generally insist on the 90 days for those going for their initial extension, and after that they are a bit more relaxed as long as you can show (overseas) money in and money out of your account.

Of course, YMMV :?

Bama and Jack, thanks for the clarification.

Another question, my first 2 extensions to my Non O are stamps stating "APPLICATION TO STAY IS PERMITTED UP TO ETC" and a date. Both from Non Khai.

The third received in BKK is the same stamp but has a ""RETIREMENT" stamp and a warning about reentry permit under it. Is there a difference between the first two and the third?. I still do 90 day reports.

Not sure about the "Retirement" stamp wokka.

I have yet to do an extension - I am into the 2nd year of my non O-A, so will either get an extension early next year, or go back to Perth and get a further non O-A (good for 2 years, and no money in the [Thai] bank, or income required).

John, now that you have received a retirement extension, if you leave Thailand, you must go to Immigration prior to leaving and submit the "Application for Re-Entry". Your application can be for a single permit (1,000 THB) or multilple (3,900 THB). The multiple permit is good for 1 year, not to exceed the expiration date of your retiement extension. If you leave Thailand without getting the re-entry permit, your retirement extension will become invalid.

Thank you all for your advice on my posting on "Retirement Visa".
I downloaded the forms from the website of the consulate in New York City and mailed my application with the documents they were asking for on Friday, August 22 .. nothing notarzed, just a copy of a letter from my ex-employer of my pension, and copies of bank (US) savings statements. I got my passport back stamped for O-A visa on the 29th.
It takes longer to get a permit from my town if I want to brush my teeth on a sidewalk.

My one year visa expires 6 Oct.I dont have 800,000 baht. I also dont get 65,000 monthSo am I correct in saying,My income is (at present 61.47 to The pound)53,000 baht.Totals 12x53,000=636,000 baht.By oct 6, I will need 164,000 baht? So I go to renew my visa showing 164,000 baht in my Thai bank. On that day, if the Thai baht changes value,+ / -How do I stand there?Bit confusing that.

Mortiboy, I think I have said before, but immigration do not go by a day to day exchange rate. They have, I believe, an amount (USD, GBP, Euro, Aus $) that satisfies the 65K. I think that amount was 1,000 GBP. They only change this if the value of a currency shows a significant deviation for a long time.
I really advice you go to Nong Khai immigration & ask them exactly how much you need in GBP to satisfy the requirement. i am sure that they will tell you.
Otherwise do as Ron suggests :D :D
