Was a great night and fun too. Ron, the movie I was talking about, John Wayne as a German Sea Captain was "The Sea Chase". It had Lana Turner as lead woman, with other stars, James Arness, Tab Hunter, Claude Akins and if I am not mistaken someone mentioned David Farrar, who also starred in the movie.

I was mistaken about the the Three Musketeers, that wasn't a western but it was about the French Foreign Legionnaires, John Wayne was a pilot in that 12 part series. There was a western, "The Three Mesquiteer" (1938)an 12 part series, which only did 8 parts. He wasn't one of the original cast of the series, replaced Robert Livingston.

"The Last Voyage Home" (1940) was where he played the Swedish immigrant trying to save money to by land in America. To show some of his talents, he spoke with a Swedish accent. His ships mates keep him from going onto the ship they were sailing out on so he could go to America. That ship was sunk by a German U-boat and all his ship mates went down with it.
