Romantic Moments

PostAuthor: banpaeng » January 11, 2006, 8:53 pm

In all this talk of romance, a lot of negatives have been explored. Been a lot of positives expressed also.

What I would like to explore here is that where or why you had a memorable moment in Thailand. Was it the moon?

What sounds really stupid to one is romantic to another.

Something that is romantic is to be on the river (Nam Kong) in NKP and listen to the Lao music from across the river at night. Maybe it is the moon or the river but it is a quite pleasant experience.

Maybe it is the climate or maybe the culture but Thailand is romantic. Wifes home is so far out it is just plain quite and romantic there also. Blue skys, exotic aromas of exotic foods being prepared and the simple ways is a big turn on. Ever seen those little thatched roof huts built out in the fields. Ever wonder what they might be used for other than to rest while working the fields.

Imagination is a great thing.

The view of a sunrise on a deserted beach somewhere on koh samui, that's what does it for me ;) , not sure if the deserted beaches still exist though :(

If you want deserted Sean, try south of Prachuap also on the Gulf of Siam side....just drive south a bit and hang a left anywhere. Well there is the occasional Thai family...every mile or so

Which brings me to the romantic moment, there. Yes a moonlit night, waves crashing on the beach, palm trees waving in the gentle breeze, we wandered down the beach at dusk hand in hand and all that stuff that you do (hoping to spot one of the aforementioned rice farming shelters  ). I gave her a playful push into the waves...and she sat on a sea urchin.

I spent half the night picking spines out of her bum..and getting slapped around the head. Romantic huh?

Phi Phi island...sipping on maitai's and watching the sunset at a seaside restaurant ; then a stroll on a moonlit beach, walking hand in hand and my wife stops to puke her guts out #-o

Mmm often have romantic moments when the sun is setting over distant coconut palms or palm as it is in our village from where i'm sitting, the smell of burning charcoal , the sound of water running down the waterfall the splashing of the fish in the pond, a bit of mood lighting , a little smooth music , ice bucket , 6 bottles chang ( large ) my own personal beer garden, nice........... Ohh and the wife with me of coarse . Or it's sitting on verander on beach side bungalow ,lamai beach koh samui. watching sunset .

ah yes, the moon, it wasn't full, but rather nice on new years eve, just sitting out front on pad and chairs specially purchased and positioned to do just that, star gaze. sipping martinis with new girlfriend, bliss.

also agree with gulf coast, prachuap khire khan has nice hotel to watch sunrise, pics on homepage of same, and also as pointed out any where heading south, hang a left, and you'll find a private beach. one of my favorites is hat thung wua laem, just above chumphon, very nice, although not as small as others. coffee and sunrise. another is koh phayam off ranong, low key bungalow operation where a midnight skinny dip (sorry paul for that visual), goes unoticed.

too many to mention, hope you make and enjoy yours as much as i enjoy my moments.

Romantic moments

PostAuthor: Alagrl » January 13, 2006, 4:13 am

For us, it was a moment we took for ourselves at Stephen's son's wedding reception in the village. His ex (Thai) and the bridal couple were busy with guests, and I had danced all I could while being plied with rice whiskey by Grandma (Yai) and the bride's aunt. We walked to the edge of the crowd spread over the village (and yes, someone had indeed set up a cart and was vending "extras") and realized we were at the edge of the village, near the pond where we had fished the day before. The moon was shining over the rice field, the sky was crystal-clear, and we sat under a palm tree and talked about our early love, our reconnected love in our 50's (!), and the excitement and dangers ahead of his son and new Thai daughter-in-law as they entered this marriage.

Many would say that our USA situation is romantic -- a house built into a ravine, shaded by enormous oak, hickory and pine trees, deck with hot tub, etc. -- but we often sit in the hot tub on these crisp winter nights and talk about Thailand, that that night in particular.

A comment I can not prove but in our circle of friend. The falangs with a Thai spouse that have long lasting relationships want to move to Thailand. Not 100% but about 90%. So after reading above is it the Thai spouse or Thailand or both you are in love with.

I have to say it is both here. AS stated before when I leave it seems like something is wrong or been left.

Romantic...

Since I'm a falang woman married to a falang with a Thai ex-wife, it's pretty clear that I fell in love with Thailand.
