It's a quiet little town on the banks of the Mekong River with a small market and the usual Thai shops dotted around here and there, and a strange smell of fried banana chips, which seems to be a local novelty. It is also home to a number of stunning waterfalls that grace the landscape there, along with some caves and some beautiful temples.
"Than Thip Falls" are approximately 15 minutes or so away, heading West towards Pak Chom or Loei, from the main town in between km' 97 & 98 on the road marker, turn left and go down the road for 3km. Don't forget to bring your swimming gear as the second level has a large hole for swimming.
Not as large but still worth a visit, are the "Than Thong Falls", this waterfall is around 12km's (East) before you reach the town itself on route 211. In between Km 72 and 73 on the road marker.
