Sawadee Coffee Shop

PostAuthor: lee » April 20, 2008, 6:44 pm

Sawadee Coffee Shop located close to Udon Map office offers a good selection of hot and cold coffees, teas, fruit blends, ice cream and some Thai food. The place is air-conditioned and has shaded outdoor seating area. They have laundry service too. :D

10 baht for extra whipping cream Oooo Mmmmmm.... must be a shot of Mekhong in there, very favourable food prices too as cheap as street food vendors but better surroundings, sounds and looks good.

That's a shame, I'll have to find out her opening hours.
The place is run by only one lady so it's possible she may have nipped out for something.

OK, CLOSED ON MONDAYS, that explains that. little confusion on hours as i type away, i thought the sign on window said, 0800-2200, asked Ree if correct, and she informs me she closes at 1730, so she can sell some offerings at night market, right behind sis's stall, hmm. if i drive by, i will verify times.

the place, well, pic is accurate. as comfortable as the photos, ac or outdoor seating. menu, also accurate, with another page not pictured, if i get a chance i will post, but on phone and using, plus Ree is on laptop, so maybe later. easy to find, map is good, 1st left off the clock circle. there is parking lot next to building, so no need to park on street, which has signs for certain days.

ok, the food, menu limited, but no surprises, which is a good thing. basic stuff with good flavor. i had the chicken and kale w/oyster sauce, which was a bit spicy, or i ate some chili by mistake, the only surprise, but good size serving for price. Gem's chicken/garlic also had nice flaver and serving size. both good values at 30 baht, can't cry. water provided and refilled, though water can ordered from menu. Ree had a caramel latte, again, no surprised, received what expected and also tasty (50), this is the large desert type drink with whip crean, looking more like a parfait. actually feeling a bit full, after those 3 glasses of water, did i mention i think i ate a chili or 2. but hey, in the interest of a good review, and passing on any opportunity to lose weight, a banana split was ordered, oops, no banana, then the romantic something, basically split wo/banana (45). Gem followed up with chocolate sunday, Ree passed. she did have toast with that green stuff on it (10).

all things coffee, some breakfast items, egg and meat sandwich, also ham or tuna sandwich, 40/25/25 i think. nice light menu, if hungry can obviously double up and still get away quite inexpensively. beers, chang/leo and singh/heiny think 60/80, guessing large, so not bad place to sit and sip a few, in quiet setting. had sons there on arrival, tv w/cartoons, they left, then turned to a music station, not intrusive at all. owner's been there for 3 yrs, and apparently does some night market business, so busy gal. nice change, especially if something on menu tickles your fancy, or when the sun comes back out, ice cream break. one of the earlier hours for a place selling coffee, which i do and don't understand. most coffee and breakfast places don't open till 9 am, with few exceptions, the roadside bag and take away is the only pre work/school stop for people. oh well.

but give them a try, basic menu for food, some nice tidbits with your morning coffee or afternoon ice cream. decent flavor and priced right. i'm sure to return, especially if up early and too lazy to cook a breakfast sandwich, think 40 baht.
