Bearing in mind what BM has just posted, is it just members in LOS or have members in other countries picked up this Thai spam? :-k

I have to agree with BoB hotmail does a good job protecting you I also am a premium member in yahoo email which IMO sucks but I have been paying them 20 bucks a year for so long now I hate to quit since I tried to get the people on my contact list to send it to my gmail account would you believe I never got one email so I guess I will continue to pay yahoo for spam

I have had a few, but have traced them to thai contacts of mine. They often have no security on their computer or sign up for dubious websites (like fanbox and other networking sites) - result - their contacts list gets nicked. You get a new email.

I also delete the spam I receive, it did seem coincidental that others have also received an increase in Thai script spam. However, a tenuous coincidence I am sure. I just don't remember any in the past, probably deleted that too. Good old selective attention, you see what your looking for and filter out the rest.

I have an old Yahoo account which gets 100+ spams a day, all in English though, which I rarely use anymore.

Spamhaus

PostAuthor: Garnet » August 31, 2008, 10:02 pm

I'm don't know if someone has previously posted of this interesting spam reference site -- if they have, my apology for this duplication.

I found it interesting that Verizon and Sprint are among the top 10 worst-offending ISP providers in that they seem uncaring about policing their product. I also found it very curious that -- even though we think Russian and China are extremely bad countries for harboring spam generators, the record of the States is several times worse. More than five times worse than Russia as a host country for spammers, for instance.

The truth is now revealed - it is one of our very own members who is the problem

Aardvarks top zebras in spam stakes

A British researcher has found that email addresses that start with 'a' get the highest proportion of spam.

Richard Clayton from the University of Cambridge collected data from eight weeks worth of email traffic from a UK internet service provider - over half a billion messages - earlier this year.

He found that email addresses starting with 'a' received more than 30 per cent spam, while those starting with 'z' received less than 20 per cent spam.

The best way to avoid spam, the study found, was to have a number as the first character of your email address.

Of the 550,596,270 emails assessed during the study, 56 per cent were deemed to be spam.
