I am aware of that, I was talking about next year.
You know 2009, April 23rd.
It could be good idea, but I am not going down that road unless people want it.

I started this topic to wish all my fellow countrymen a nice day on our National Day. However as you have chosen to make it a cause for controversy I feel obliged to reply.Looking at your photo with the tigers it is difficult to establish what your heritage might be, so I can't make a direct comparison of nationality so I will stick with a few facts.
St George was believed to have been appointed a knight of the Order of the Garter by King Edward III of England who reigned from 1327-1377 and founded the order which was to honour the gallantry and chivalry of its members. Characteristics incidentally that many Englishmen maintain through to this present day, and which are still honoured by the sovereign with a Knighthood and presentation of the medal, The Cross of St George.
So as you will see this tradition goes back 700 years, long before many of the present day nations were founded even.
So please do not question my countries heritage and I promise not to question yours.

Would this thread warrant a special area for Brits to post? I think not.

I celebrate St. George's Day with my Brit friends!

Whe Saint George was appointed Englands patron Saint ,where he came from had little, if no meaning. It was about what values and principles he represented ,etc.He was a good choice as far as Christanity goes, its what England has been for well over 1000 years.Just for the record he was not Turkish! correct me if im wrong but Turkey didnt exist in the second and third century A.D. God save the Queen. :D
