$13 billion from 2009 stimulus package to be used as one-time $250 checks

Eligible people on Social Security or receiving Supplementary Security Income will receive a one-time $250 check beginning May 1, according to Vice President Joe Biden. This social security stimulus payment will be taken from a $13 billion budget allocation under the 2009 stimulus package, otherwise known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

For the more than 50 million who qualify for the social security stimulus check, there will be no need to apply as it will be sent separate of monthly benefits, in the same manner as people receive their social security benefits.

Biden also stated that the Social Security Administration is six weeks ahead of schedule in preparing for the social security checks.

Other measures concurrent with the 2009 stimulus check

As a form of tax relief, withholding tax percentages have been readjusted, with individuals earning up to $400, and $800 for couples who file jointly. This adjustment will help 95% of all working families.

“We have 18 months to get this job done, and get it done right,” Biden affirmed, showing the determination that the Obama administration has when it comes to finding solutions for the recession.

Biden also talked about the $3.2 billion to be used for energy conservation and efficiency projects, in the form of grants. This is in addition to the $8 billion recently released for weatherization and state energy projects, all under the ARRA 2009 stimulus package.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is one of the major steps the Obama administration is taking to deal with the financial crisis. Thankfully, there are signs of hope, as it has been noted that there has been a jump in applications for refinancing home mortgages.
