The biggest issue in getting the MRI scan, is :

Can the hospital that your are admitted to, administer any ongoing treatment as a result of the scan .

No use having it, if they wont thrombolise afterwards.

You would need to push the issue with your admitting medical officer, to get this done, most care is passive , unless you have insurance !

The next issue, if you admitted to Eg AEK, then its an ambulance transfer and if your unstable, this would add to your already high risk condition.

Im sure they wont take a Dr with the escort, just find a nurse, then the MRI Clinic for sure wont have a full resus trolley.

If your taken to Kiprajak, then its an interhospital transfer and a lot safer.

We have heard about the MRI scanner clinic in Posri Road opposite the museum.
I will visit too.
Which other Udon hospitals/clinics have an MRI scanner?
Are they manned 24 hrs?
If not when.
Whoever orders the scan will be the Consultant in charge?

On another note, Sondhi the PAD leader was taken to Vajira Hospital Bangkok. That is something to note if you needed a Medical Consultant.
"BMA Medical College and Vajira Hospital" BMA does not mean British Medical Assoc but Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
Its at :-
681 Samsaen Road
Dusit
Bangkok 10300
Tel 02 2443189
www.vajira.ac.th

They do have a medical specialist trained to Consultant level in the UK. He has an MRCP Member of the Royal College of Physicians.
Its a teaching hospital

Vajira Hospital, Bangkok
I know Sondhi needed the Trauma Centre.
I understand that this hospital has a MAP a Major Accident Plan in the event of a natural or unnatural disaster that needs more than facilities available routinely

The Consultant can order the MRI , but the key players are then the radiolographer who actually does the scan and then the Radiologist who reads, interprets and reports the results back to the requesting medical officer.

My gut feeling is, these are day time operations, and not set up for out of hours emergencies.

On the MAP issue, all hospitals will have an internal and external disaster plan. The Santika fire on NYE would have activated some plans for sure as burns victims are a very long term acute admission in ICU.

Dont get me started on why different ambulances from different hospitals etc , dont work on a central radio freq. xyz ambulance will take u back to their hospital , NOT to the hospital that is the preferred centre of excellence for your condition.

Udon MRI Center is open 24 hours 7days a week
Brain scan takes 15 mins and costs 8000bht /$ 228 or GBP160 approx
You can go conscious or unconscious by ambulance '
The radiologist from AEK is there Sat & Sun but for emergencies just have the scan and take it with you to the hospital or doctor of your choice.
There are other prices for C-T Spine/chest etc.. on request.

Signs and Symptoms have been described here but I will add that Strokes may affect the persons movement, sensation, speech ,thought and other functions of the brain

I would certainly check the Government Hospital facilities before making a decision. They have a 24 hour Emergency Dept, and Xray service but I will find out about MRI scan's.

I was asked recently if high blood pressure or BP -lowering drugs cause impotence or affects sexual appetite in men or women. If there is interest you can PM me?
