Swine 'Flu in Nong Khai?

PostAuthor: westerby » August 16, 2009, 4:24 pm

Morning chaps,

Just had a mate return from KK who tells me the Locals are walking about in surgical masks in fear of Swine 'Flu. Has Piggie 'Flu hit NK yet, has it affected business or is it just something and nothing?

I am not sure on the statistics of the problem in or around Nong Khai but I have noted a large number of people in surgical masks especially in places where there is heavier foot traffic, i.e. shopping malls.

Just to give you a broader insight of how it is here now, I went to the cinema a few nights back, there was 28 people inside, 4 of which were not wearing masks (including me).

I understand there is a much greater incidence of it in Udon Thani, than in Nong Khai. I think the masks in Nong Khai are merely precautionary. ;)

There was a Doctor on The One Show the other night saying that the masks don't serve any useful function after a few minutes anyway. How come surgeons wear them then?

Another 10 swine flu deaths have been confirmed in the past week, bringing the total death toll in the UK during the pandemic to 59.

But the estimated number of new weekly cases has fallen again, the Department of Health said.

In England, there were thought to be 11,000 infections - down from over 100,000 at the beginning of the month.

No one walking about UK in masks yet the rate of infection for this Summer is falling.

Much ado about very little, it's winter in the Southern Hemisphere and we haven't seen legions of folks succumbing to the dreaded lurgy yet, God forbid.
