It's that karma bs again isn't it?
There's a dog, one of the wife's dogs, but he has some sickness, he's obviously in pain and he snaps at people but it's bad karma for her to take him to the vet and get him put down humanely as I suggested. But since I am not a Buddhist, it's cool for me to take him to the vet and be destroyed. It's OK, the wife prays for me.
So it's good for the karma to watch pain and suffering and natural death of a loved one but any intervention isn't. Your family loved one may survive any medical intervention but maybe their quality of life isn't any better afterwards; bedridden, amputee, colostomy bag, etc., so your karma takes a big hit. If you try and maintain a western style conscience in Thailand, you will lose sleep.
I now use this 'farang no have karma' bs and call this chap in Tha Rae, Sakhon Nahkon every time one of the soi dogs (or even one our yard dogs) gives me the sh!ts. He drives over within a few hours, picks up the mutt, pays me handsomely and the problem is solved. I use that 'bad karma' money for dog food for the remaining few yard dogs and ice. My conscience is as clear as the ice in my Jack Daniels, I sleep well and the soi is a lot quieter too.
