I would certainly take it back to Tesco first, they may well just exchange it as Aardvark suggested. That would surely be easier than packaging it up and sending it to Bangkok. ;)

If its a "Strimmer" then its B and D. The manufactures will, but Tesco try not to. Demand to see the manager. The staff are too lazy. If its paid on a credit card, stop the payment citing faulty goods.Good luck.
ps: Even in Thailand your contract is with the supplier not the manufacturer.

Actually Stan. I had occasion to take back an electric drill within a week of purchase and was told by customer service, "Its been used" How the hell they thought I would know it was faulty without using it I will never know. However to Tesco's credit they are pretty good on exchanging items, just don't try getting your money back, that's all.

I agree, but I have a Brit friend here in NK that always gets his money back, but I do admit I have felt uncomfortable in his persence during such adamant discussions with the Tesco management!Maybe it is the high shrill of his voice and the flushed face, looks like he is going to blow a gasket  But he succeeds over and over again :yikes: I just throw the crap in the trash and hopefully ,one of the collectors has a good day!

I have a friend who purchased MP3 player from Carrefour last week, when he got it home and started to program it, he discovered it didn't work properly. He took it back to Carrefour, told their Customer Service Department the problem, they offered to replace it or refund his money  . He opted to replace the defective one with a better model, everything was fine with the new model (a Sony) until today. It malfunctioned, he took it back to Carrefour and again they replaced it. No questions asked. No telling him he had to send it back to the manufacturer. No having to talk to an assortment of different people to get his problem resolved. Etc., etc.
Great customer service at Carrefour, IMO.

I should also add that my friend always does a lot of comparison shopping when purchasing electronics.

I've brought back items to Makro, Big C, and Tesco for either refund or replacement or buy a different product. A 5000 baht hot water heater that didn't work, a 500 baht toaster that blew on the first try, and a 150 baht hand-pump sprayer that was worthless, among other things.
A power washer that I bought at Homepro stopped working 8 months after I bought it. Returned it to Homepro and they had it repaired (in Bangkok, I presume). I had it back within a few weeks and it works like a champ, a year later.
Keep your receipts!!
