I had a simular experience couple of months ago. This Farang met a few times, said he was wealthy had money ect.
He said he left his credit card behind. But had cash with him.He wanted to buy plane ticket to UK but wanted buy online.
He asked me help him as I had computer and he was not into computers.
He said he would go back and get the cash and give to me.I booked the ticket with "ehad" (spell?)
After, asked for the Itinery(with the booking ref.I said Go get the money then I will give it to you.
He went off and came back saying He had to bail out his friend...caught by BIB with some grass and pay me next week.Ticket was 23,000 baht.
I called the airline and got refunded(Less 3,000 baht cancellation fee.)
After, I found out he owed money everywhere.Never paid 3 months rent and borrowed 20,000 baht from a POLICEMAN!
This was a con man.But you would not think so as he had plenty of chat and convincing!
His name was Brian from UK.Short, fat, bald head, and chain smoker.
I recon someone on the forum knew of him.

Also be careful about land deals and check the chanote, for the red bird or the white bird at the top.
As some try and sell you land that has been leased to them from the government but forget to mention.
I have been told you cannot buy land on mountains or islands as they all belong to the government but some individuals try and sell them anyway Thai and farang alike.

Conmen get anywhere, and generally don't care who they scam, as long as they see a way of doing it they will.

you are in a foreign country and can not legally own land/house/business, so why would you, and to do so without a lawyer, well, for business, you would have to be nuts. then if not buying the business building, you are at the mercy of the landlord if you actually make money

if not mistaken, you can not own or build 50 or 100 meter past the hide tide mark, and can not build on hill with more of a 30 % slant, read that in phuket gazette, after a couple apartment buildings collapsed in phuket after a heavy rain, and they had to be at least on a 70 % hillside, steel stilts didn't help.

as far as the one in udon you mention, i agree, his tactics are not buyer friendly, but all he does is offer, the idiot has to agree to give him the money. only you can let yourself be taken.

NO LEND, NO BORROW POLICY..........................keeps me out of any headaches.........NO EXCEPTIONS.

IF I CAN'T OWN IT, I'M NOT GOING TO BUY IT.

I think it was in a well-known travel guide, that I read if there are con merchants operating in your home country, then don’t be surprised to find there are a fair number of farangs trying to cheat you in Thailand too.

A few years back, I struck up an acquaintance with a guy, a distinctive character, seemingly harmless and innocent, very well known in the Complex. The story went that he needed to borrow money to fly home, to sort out financial matters, including I think selling his house. I loaned him a small amount.

Subsequently, another friend told me he and others had also loaned money. I didn’t see the guy for some time and, if he was here, the Complex visits had stopped. A couple of months later, through his old address/landlady, I was able to trace him to a new address in Udon, shacked up with a lady. The above friend and I arranged to call at his house. He was ‘surprised’ to see us. We were quite tolerant, but made it clear we weren’t happy that he hadn’t made any contact, had relocated, was ‘doing very nicely, thank you’ and we wanted our money repaid quickly. The implication was that we’d take things further officially if it wasn’t.

The money was repaid, but I always wondered if I hadn’t actually found him. I suppose he would have been daft to remain in Udon if he was trying to fleece us, but then his partner was obviously from the city. I'm not suggesting you shouldn't help a friend in need, just make sure you REALLY know the guy.

Incidentally, my wife’s sister has recently been given two completely different stories about the ownership/registration of some land she was interested in buying.

Hmmm, sounds like my Suffolk cousin.

Actually that's not a bad idea, get someone to sub you for the money for a ticket to Thailand, borrow money from ex-pats once you get there and then get another sub for a go home ticket. But if you're that good, you could probably claim benefit from the State to fund your holiday anyway.

Crimerk, I suspect your motive is revenge on an ex-pat who has reneged on an agreement. I've said it before (I'm like an old gramophone 78), Thailand attracts the Farang Undesirables because they believe they can get away with things in Thailand that they can't in their own country. To that end, I'd be more wary of unscrupulous Farangs than the people of LOS. Just an opinion, readers.

thais will usually only try to do you for 10 to 200 baht, while a farang will try to cheat or con you for 10,000 to 200,000 baht

never do business with a farang, friend or stranger in thailand

do NOT lend someone that is down and out any money, its the oldest game in the books :^o

Hi together and thks for ur experiences and comments.
One thing i hv to clear is that my motiv for this topic isnt revenge, im a peaceful man,
i just want to inform the Farangs that they should be carefully with somebody who offers them any Restaurant Business (Partnership, Franchise, own Shop) in Udon Thani.
Second reason to do it public is, cause i think we dont need more liars, beguiler and/or rowdies here.
Hope to hear more stories...every story may helps others...
