Unfortunately the first fatalities loosely associated with this attempt occurred yesterday. Five young children, aged 5 to 9 were standing looking up in the sky at the jumpers when they were struck by a train coming from Nong Khai to Udon. Apparently they were standing at the side of the railway track and weren't aware of the trains approach. The two youngest aged 5&6 were dismembered. The other three aged 9 scrambled clear.A terrible tradgedy reported byThai Luk paper yesterday, 31st Jan.

For anyone wishing to witness the practice jumps, they practice between 09.00-10.00, 12.00-13.00 & 15.00-16.00 daily at Wing 23 Airbase which is halfway between the Prince Prajak roundabout and the ring-road on route 2. Take some id with you to leave at the main gate when you enter the airbase.

I was there at 12 noon, there was a good clear view of all the 5 planes taking off, then at about 12.45 you could see the parachutists join up to make their formation in the colours of the Thai flag. It was all over in a matter of minutes and then we watched them all land, most within a stones throw of where we were standing. It was very impressive display and definitely well worth a look.

The record jump will take place on either the 7th, 8th or 9th of February.
