At those prices you might see a lot of familiar faces, I cant think off hand of any place that matches them, shall definately give it a go when back in December. In the meantime would be interested in any revues....LA, your a cheap charlie how about it :D :D

Those prices are good value for money even the more "expensive" items come in at less than 80 baht. The decor looks nice as well.

Their menu has American Fried Rice. This is fried rice with ketchup added, maybe with some raisens. Apparently, this version was served to G.I.'s during the Vietnam war and has remained popular.

I've tried American fried rice, but IMO it doesn't taste as good as asian fried rice. Hold that tomato sauce.

The Oyster Hot Pot open-air Thai eatery across from the Udon Thani Province Museum on Prosi Road is my first choice for very good and inexpensive fried rice dishes.

Thanks for the reviews John and LA. I thought I'd copy and paste them here from the cheapest bar in Udon thread.

Menu price for large Leo is 70 baht. The opening promotion price is 39 baht for Leo only. Makes sense to me.

laphanphon wrote:Following up on John's recommendation to take a peek, them leo's were ok, shh, don't tell anyone i wasn't drinking tiger, which is a very reasonable 50/80 sm/lg. leo's for 39, rather nice, tho i blame it on another member. started with a couple at his house, and god forbid, out of a can. shh, i'l blow my image.

anyway, the panang moo, red, was quite tasty and spiced up as it should be. asked if i needed it toned down, please no, serve as normal, plenty of beer in box if to spicy. tom yam soup had very nice flavor also, along with some veggies in oyster sauce and Gem gave her khai phat a thumbs up along with couple rices, so no complaints, and escaped with less than 400 baht, inc. tip w/2 lg beers.

menu has standard thai dishes, western had a couple interesting things on it, bit different and worth a try next time. nothing there to break the bank, most well under 100, 50-80 range. most exp. was t-bone, 210, but dont' quote me. service very prompt and courteous. think they'll do just fine, exspecially with beer prices under the norm. decent location w/parking on street available. definitely a stop when at ruysuk, as nothing else did it for me in the area.

Went there this afternoon with the missus and youngest boy.
Me and the wife had fish steak with french fries, excellent value at 69 baht and a good plate full.
The boy had salmon with vegetables and french fries for 149 baht.
All the meals were very tasty.
Service very good and friendly.Good western and extensive Thai menu all at reasonable prices.
Try this place,I'm sure you wont be disappointed.
Good that we are now getting some good farang options in Udon recently following on from Green Leaf and Saengthaew in recent months.
Good Everything and Irish Clock already well established venues.

Have just returned from the restaurant. Met the French owner and his Thai wife. Very nice people. The food was excellent and prices were some of the cheapest I have seen in town.
It's probably just as cheap as buying the food at a supermarket and cooking at home without the bother of washing up :D
It's next to Soi 7 if you fancied some dessert, I had the strawberries and cream at the restaurant.
I would highly recommend it to anyone who has not tried before =P~

Lee,

Might be useful to mention opening hours/days when you add place to Udon map
At several occasions I hit closed doors at lunch time coming from far away, this and other places...

Had a meal at the Factory the other night had a striploin steak, steak was more of well done rather than medium that was asked for although quite tasty and very good value for the price. This misses enjoyed the fat that I left on the plate from the steak. The thai food that she had was excellent tasting, good service. Mr Factory was not about but could only assume that Mrs Factory was serving us, her toyboy or chaf showed up later and plugged a fan in to scare the mozzies off. Nice chap :)

Highly recomended

I see that The Factory is advertised as being up for sale on Udon Map.
Bit of a surprise as they seem to be one of the few farang restaurant/bars in Udon that seems to be doing quite well.
We always enjoy going there.Food is excellent and not expensive at all.
It would be a shame if it closed IMO.Anyone know if Rene and his Thai missus are planning on relocating anywhere ?
