I heard tonight that an anti-Samak demonstration had gathered beside Ban Hoy market in Udon tonight (9pm). A number of his supporters are also supposed to have shown up to spoil it and about 100 police were there to keep order.

Anybody else hear about this?

This news is correct. Many people from Bangkok came to Udon Thani for the protest.
There were traffic jams as well.

I got jammed up in traffic with a demo at 4:30PM,so it started long before 9PM!Saw alot of police and large group of Thais with red bands around their heads!

There was a large group and rally of some sort at Thungsi Muang around 10am Saturday. Not knowing much Thai, I wasn't sure what was going on, but the speaker was loud.

make it either side of a main road!!

Then the classic is we can set up a tent on half of the main road, leaving only two lanes instead of four, and have people spilling out onto those two with flags and things.
