Great post, lynxlynx. And a great lead-in to a book that I just finished reading, pertinent to this thread.

Farang! by David Thompson (2007)

An Englishman teacher on a holiday in Phuket meets a waitress in a bar who sells him a sob story about her Mum being very sick so the gullible lad gives her 200,000 baht, finds out she lied and makes a trip to the girl's hometown of Ban Tard (LA's home?), near Udon Thani, where he shames her in front of her village and the money is returned (yeah, ok). In between, he meets our very own former sage, Doc, at the Irish Clock, and Doc offers some worldly advice on teaching in Thailand. The hero stays at the Top Mansion, ventures to Farang Alley and the Complex. Don't ask, no mention of UdonMap or beermonkey or BKKStan but Nick/AUA did get a plug. Lots of other adventures makes it even more interesting.

A very enjoyable read. I bought a copy of the book at bookstore outside Top's at the Complex. :D

Nope. His story is unique. Just thought someone out there might be interested in reading a good yarn. ;)
