Went into TOT yesterday to enquire about the upgrade.
Signed up for 4mB/s at TBH1000/month - same price as I am currently paying for 2mB, and the same price as I was paying for 1mB when I set the account up in early 2007.
No free calls, and must take out a 12 month contract. Also got a freebie router, which I will use as a back-up if my current wireless router goes kaput. I also asked about the distinction between national and international downloads, as flagged above by arjay. They said there was no difference, and logically (though not necessarily technologically) thinking, I can't see how they could differentiate between the two.
Was told that if I was in Udon the same package would cost TBH890 (as advertised), but as I was in the sticks, the price was 1000 - I am not complaining.
Of course the big test will be on Thursday, when they switch me over to 4mB.
Interestingly, as I was doing all this, another farang came in to the TOT office, and asked to downgrade his plan. Said he was currently paying for 1mB, but could never get this speed in village, so wanted to go back to 256kBs. Looking at a piece of paper given to me by TOT, it seems under the promotion, he could get 2mB for the same price as he will be paying for 256kB (even if the higher speed is achievable only on the odd occasion). Maybe he will read this post.
