travelling to Udon Than alone - how safe?

PostAuthor: onlyme » May 5, 2009, 4:19 am

Hi there,

I am thinking of travelling to Thailand and staying with relatives in Udon Thani. I will be travelling alone to Bangkok and then flying to Udon Thani, where I will be staying alone for a few days until my relatives arrive.

Is it safe to travel on my own as I have heard some bad stories about tourists being targeted with crime.

Also, how safe is Udon Thani?

Thanks!

It is as safe as any city in the world. If you are not drunk (and most likely if you are) you will have no problem. Just use common sense and you will be fine. Have a good trip.

You didn;t say your gender, so may I add. If you are a single lady travelling alone, exercise caution, dress modestly, don't go out of the busy areas at night and certainly don't get a samlor away from the centre area. If your a guy. No problems . Do it all the time. Act sensibly and don't get obviously drunk, you'll be okay.

Bangkok holds far more dangers than Udon Thani. But even Bangkok is probably safer than the nearest large city where you normally reside as long as you act as sensibly as you would at home.
If you are not either completely stupid or exceedingly unlucky then Udon Thani holds few dangers..

If you are an adult male, Udon is, as stated, pretty safe. I have visited twice alone last year and never felt unsafe in Udon, day or night. Be sensible and respectful, should have no problems. Easy to make friends; in evening go into the more family orientated locations like Irish Clock, Fuzzy Kens in town, or go around the nightmarket; should feel perfectly safe. If female, should still be pretty safe, just be a little more cautious as said; above locations also should be ok, as long as near to where you stay.

IMO,Thailand is one of the safest countries in the World!

Take trubrits advice on this one!

When in Bangkok,as any large city in the World, don't walk in dark areas at night and don't take tuk tuks.A gold or handbag snatch is always a RARE possibility, otherwise daylight hours are very safe. :D
