TTT Indy users must upgrade to Premier for Int'l access

PostAuthor: DaveUdon » March 9, 2009, 11:28 am

I'm a long-time happy user of TTT Maxnet Indy 3Mb service... until 3 days ago, when they suddenly upped my speed to 4Mb and simultaneously dropped all access outside Thailand. Oh-oh...

I thought it had to do with the numerous TOT complaints of a similar nature on TV and was prepared to wait it out.

When a marketing team of 4-5 TTT staff showed up this morning at our village, I spoke to one of them to complain about the lack of int'l access. The reply was that I should upgrade to their Premier service 2Mb @ 1,090B/mo.

Ok, it took only 20 min's to sign up and pay next month's bill (including a 300-baht service fee), and I was immediately back on with a new user/pswd.

But why couldn't they have announced this change beforehand, instead of cutting off the service and waiting for us bugs to crawl out of the woodwork looking for light?

When I worked in the Telecoms industry in the UK I wished we had taken the attitude of the Thais.
Life would have been very much easier and stress free. Just image how satisfying it must be to be able to tell the customer, "if you don't like it, get lost" :D

And I think this is total nonsense. Indy users do not have to upgrade to the very expensive Premier service to have 'outside Thailand' access. I still have. It didn't work yesterday from 14:00 until this morning 10:00 (extremely slow), but that was most probably because all lines had been routed to the computer show in the Charoensri (har har).

Most probably this was a misunderstanding, as Indy has always been promoted with some limitations of VOIP services and P2P. See the Maxnet Website.

they gave me premium for 15 days free of charge I did not see any difference. it is my understanding there is no difference in price between indy & prem. if you are getting 1000 baht package but I do stand to be corrected if I am wrong

Ron,

There's a huge difference, twice as much or more depending on speed. For 4096/512 with Indy it's 1000bt and 2500bt for Prem.

Anyway, have to agree with Techland. I've had the Indy package for 2 yrs now and never had a problem accessing Int sites. Sometimes it's slow, but I have no complaints.

Rito I am not sure of the package they gave me to use all I know is when I installed it I had to use the word premium instead of indy in my user name. so they could have given me a smaller package.
that about 70 bucks a month if it gives you what we are use to in the States I would buy it
but my experience with it did not show me any difference. maybe some of the poster might give it a
shot and we wait & see what there opinion is please do not go on my opinion. I have been wrong more times than I want to admit to

I had access to international sites blocked over the weekend. I phone Maxnet yesterday and the 'tech' reset the line and my internet is back to normal (if not better than normal).

Sounds like a scam to get more money from you.

Ron,

we discussed this about a year ago when I too tried Premier because of all the troubles with slow outside access at that time. The only chance to see a difference is when they also re-route your connection, which not happens if you just get a new log-in info for testing. Indeed nobody has ever been able to report reliably about any difference, so I think there is none as they just don't know how to do it anyway...

Uh oh...defamation caution...save the board.... :freak:

This smells of coercion. Its unlikely that its a coincidence that the did this to you just before the sales people showed up. At this point, I am glad I didn't switch to TTT when they came into our village with enticing offers.

On the other hand, one of my neighbors who made the switch reports that he loves the improved reliability, while on Sunday, we had no service most of the day.

Moved to Udon last week. Found a TTT flyer stuffed in the mail box; called them, and a team of them arrived last Friday. I wanted the lowest (INDY 590B/mo) package. The sales lady insisted that it was not good enough for me, and wanted me to take the premium package. I wanted to talk to an engineer. We agreed that the service will be adequate inside Thailand. Outside of Thailand, my needs are Yahoo and Hotmail with servers in Singapore, I would guess, and reading some newspapers in the States. My packets would have a lower priority at the gateway, so he said. I have no need for streaming, and therefore no need for reserved bandwidth.
First day of servive-- no problem anywhere.

Ray.Charles, thanks for your comments. You don't say so directly, but I assume you went for the Indy package. I hope it works out well for you.

As I said, I had great success with it for years. Last weekend was an exception: some pages were coming through but the whole affair was erratic. I've learned to be patient with events here, but the internet is important for business. I wanted some resolution before Monday.

The Premier 2,048/1,024 package at 1,090B is only 245B more than the Indy 3Mb (increased Friday to 4Mb for how long?). I offset that by reducing my Dtac service with a package 600B less. Maxnet coercion? Probably. Roll with the punches -- life's too short to be floored by them.

Thanks to all for replying...

Here is a speed test I have just done with my 4Mb Indy package.

As I said, last Sunday's problems was a scam.
