Typhoon Damrey, what's the weather like in Udon?

PostAuthor: businessman » September 27, 2005, 11:29 am

Well they said it would start to arrive on Tuesday morning and we have had continual rain since 9.00 am and it is now 12.15.Not heavy as yet.How is the weather in Udon?

From Malaysian internet news:

HANOI (Reuters) - Typhoon Damrey smashed into Vietnam on Tuesday after killing nine people in China, tearing up swathes of coastline from which more than 300,000 people were evacuated in advance, officials and state media said.

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai ordered that only young people, police and soldiers should remain behind to watch vital networks of dykes built to keep the sea out of rice fields.

"The waves are high, rising across the dyke now," Agriculture Minister Cao Duc Phat told state-run Vietnam Television from the northern province of Nam Dinh

hmm, (bbc) supposed to be sunny today, oops, overcast and a wee bit of rain just s.w. of udon. the rest of the week seems normal forcast, rain. scattered rain or thundershowers is usually the forecast for about 4-5 months, but still got that overall drought thing going, although past couple weeks, i'm guessing it helped out the reservoirs a little bit. hope so. but it rarely rains long, just over night sometims rains a while and a nice downpour now and then. i like it, beats dry season. everything is brown and ugly. next 10 days sounds normal, at least consistant, 30/22, scattered thundershowers.

BBC looks like my yahoo and excite pages. For past few months says the same thing for every day! When I try to find info about a storm, get very little, but a storm near the US get too much info!

I do have a wedget (Mac only) which geves me the cur temp, high/low, wind, rel humidity, vis, dew. and pressure. Comes from "VTUD" which I think is the Udon airport. 8)

Correct Dakoda,

VTUD is the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) four digit identifier for Udon Thani Airport, used for example by a pilot for his flight plan (assuming Udon is where he is flying to).

UTH is the IATA (International Air Transport Association) three digit code for Udon Thani that is put on your baggage tags and on your boarding ticket at check in to ensure that when you arrive at Udon Thani baggage reclaim you go ballistic when you realise your bags have gone somewhere else

Well,it's just stopped raining here and the lawn looks like a shallow lake.Very heavy rain this morning on the school run,but like a normal monsoon intensity.Hopefully there will be a gap to let some of the water soak and drain away.

Well, today was cloudy with some light rain here and there, when I got home, it looked like area had some heavy rain. From the news at noon, looks like Nong Khai had some flooding, maybe trees down(?) . Tonight, here at home heavy rain!

Has Damrey turned around?

I believe it headed North and turned into a plain old tropical storm.

Lot's of rain and thunder here in the east of Udon Thani. If you look at Pop Pop's Net & Games street view cam you will notice that the street is a little flooded.
