Udon Cable

PostAuthor: Bread Man » May 7, 2009, 2:44 pm

Why is it that MM2 has disappeared along with BBC World, then this morning MM1 went missing only to re-appear at 14.30, we have spoken to Udon Cable, the reply "we no nothing"! ](*,)
What a way to run a TV station, when it is running it cuts off and says no video or signal. Seriously thinking about dumping the entire TV system here, no reliability, repeats and bad service. Can anyone suggest an alternative please ?

The only alternative to cable is satellite.
If you search the forum you will find plenty of threads on it - 90%+ critical. It is expensive, but the only way to get live UK football if that is your thing.
Similar sort of complaints to the ones you (rightly) make about cable - change programs at a whim, not reliable, a stranger to the words "Customer service".
I have seen the very large satellite systems. I was told it was possible to pick "Falang" satellite up from them, but I would imagine you need a little skill to set up.
Maybe some one can advise....

It would be nice if there was an alternative to UBC and Home Cable.

PSI provide satellite systems, however the website is in Thai only. http://www.psisat.com/ I wonder if it would be possible to install one of their satellites and tune it in to custom frequencies? i.e. STAR TV on Asiasat 3S at 105.5°E http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/startv.html

I had a C/Band satellite system in the states unless you have video siphor (scramble box ) and a land line phone your not getting very much of a choice that system has gone down hill since the satellite TV co. are giving you the dish free with free instillation if you sign a contract for a year. it seem to me that Thai business copy only what can benefit them they would never think of free that word is not in the Thai dictionary also on another note to those Yanks forget about getting USA broadcast unless you can get it from true or home cable you not getting it we are on the other side of the globe no way no how unless it mirrored

This is sort of on topic.... :?
I can find out what is on Aussie channel on line & am sort of happy to flick between the SA Sports channels to see what sport is on but the movies defeats me completely.
I have search for (& found) the movie channel on line (well both MM1 & 2) but it is completely different to what is actually shown on Cable in Thailand. I do not mean by time (which I could understand) but even the movies within the week i.e. I can physically see movies that are not even listed for the week, let alone the day... :?
Has anyone managed to figure it out????

Udon Cable - now let's be fair, it costs 900baht a quarter. for that you get a fair bit - i quite like watching the Korean series about a 20 year old who goes out nightime in his truck to collect discarded cardboard to go and sell at the recycling plant - he's quite a character and so are his family, I've learnt quite a bit of korean since getting hooked on this series. Also fox news - fox and friends, Hannity, O'rielly factor, all thoroughly enjoyable for me. On top of that you get an English speaking film channel and the channel that shows US police stuff presented by the the ex-captain of Starship enterprise. Also don't forget that on about 6 or 7 am is either the naked chef series with jamie oliver, the american series of hells kitchen with Gordon Ramsey who makes full grown men cry, plus River Cottage with Hugh fearnley-whittingstall who cooked and ate his freshly castrated bulls balls. If you add all this falang entertainment up together with the 3 or 4 cartoon channels for the kids, the "love in the market" type soaps that your mrs is glued to at certain parts of the day - well it's not too bad for the money.
PS - premiership football is also there but the commentary is crap...O.T's top tip - turn the sound off .. \:D/

I am sure that this can be done Lee but the only problem would be getting around the encryption, they are using 'videoguard' which would require a 'pro' to hack/fix to make sure it's viewable as you wouldn't have anyone to pay a subscription to.

I know a few guys that have JSat (http://www.jsat.tv/) installed in the Bkk area, but I don't know about the availability in and around Issan.

It could well be that home cable are buying a secondary feed (for a discount of course :)) from whatever sattelite service it comes from, hence all of the schedules being messed up....

That's a shame Ron.

I am guessing the info they gave your wife would be quite valuable in the right hands, like a satellite tv installer.....If they can pass the installation specs to you, you could get a local guy to do the job, but then again, looking at their (jsat) prices, it would make them pretty expensive.

I have seen those PSI dishes around, look like they could pick up almost anything so I am sure that if a competant installer can be found then he should be able to get the dish connected to any sat that is visible. I think it's around 4000 baht for a PSI dish and box set up, but don't quote me on it.

I have the PSI set up which the wife rather enjoys as it has a lot of Thai TV stations that are not on terrestial links, including Channel D which is back on after being banned for covering the red shirt demos.
I also have True vision which spends most of the day locked onto the cartoon channel and stupid wrestling for the neighbour hood kids.Occasionally I get to watch the football, when there all in bed.For this I pay nearly 2k a month plus a 200bht visit fee whenever it goes wrong. Frequently.i would love to have cable tv
But am told its not available this far out of Udon.
