wazza that may be true but i was the only customer and believe me there was nothing I wanted from this lady I was just being nice you see when I ordered my coke she brought it over and sat down with me it not like I invited her. I don't have a problem buying a drink my feeling not a problem is when they charge 90 baht for a bottle of beer I don't see were the need is to charge so much but I don't own a bar don't want a bar I am retired and that how it going to stay for me.
on another issue the bar owners want bar fines for the ladies from my understand they want 300
baht that a week pay for the lady so they are nothing more than PIMPS. Also I never paid a bar fine
and never will and I never had a problem getting a piece of azz when I was looking for it

Ron, 1st I haven't opened a bar I have a guesthouse, with gym, pool, car rentals, bike rentals, restaurant, we have minibars, laundry service, and soon to offer a small toiletries section, my point is I did this as I know not 1 thing alone will work here in Udon/Thailand. By doing so, all items promote themselves (ie a wide range of needs for the typical tourist) this way I don't need to rip anyone off on beer or food or rooms, everything can be reasonably and sensibly priced, right down to full english @ 99bt, large leo @ 60bt, Spy @55bt, AC rooms @400bt, monthlyMembership 400bt. You get the picture, it can be done.

I can get the same food at the night market as they serve in The Ban Chiang, yet I'll pay more than tripple for it, was I ripped off? No, the prices were put infront of me I look around the room, acknowledge the pianist and the singer, note the smart uniforms the waiters are wearing, feel the comfort of the wool carpet below my feet, and sit back in my comfortable chair to enjoy my meal, all the while wondering how can these guys sell this food so cheap. Can I afford to do this every day of the week, NO.

As it has already been said RON, not everyone want's the pile-it-high, sell-it-low, no thrills night out all the time, those that do obviously like to stretch their money as far as it can go for what ever reason, and see no value in a beautiful, quality environment. If you have no appreciation for it, then you shouldn't waste your money on it.

PS Ron, it doesn't help this thread if you don't name the bar that ripped you off. Was that a typing error or did you really buy yourself a coke and the misses a beer???

glyn I don't know the name of the bar since I was just strolling and looking at the new falong alley
and it was my choice to buy the beer I just can not understand why they charge so much
the place is nothing like as you describe your place it was just a bar as for the 90 baht it did not break me so I am not upset over it I just questioned why. I am non drinker my drinking days are over I have been sober since August 20 1981 I will be celebrating 27 years this month and yes I am AA and yes I do go out to eat and never question the price if the food is good and the place is free of flies and animals running loose & yes I enjoy the N/M because I am sitting with many of udon finest which I will call my friends and enjoy the company of them. Now if you ask me do I frequent the N/M my answer is NO why because my friends are not there so I choose to go else were when I am out On another note I do go to the hotel (complex robinson) for Lunch buffet why because it clean no flies and no animals running loose and I pay 200 baht which I consider very cheap I would pay 300 if that was the price because I enjoy going there and yes I go almost every day. this is starting to look like a love letter best wishes Glyn

Moral of the story, buying the ladies a drink is generous enough so we don't charge you extra for it.

Bars that operate fines are PIMPs, there is no other word to use I looked for one in the dictionary, so unluck guys, you are PIMPs.

Wazza, the bar should not over staff, by doing so they are trying create an additional service, these types of bars should indicate on the outside, simple sign like GIRLIE BAR, or SHORT-TIME AVAILABLE HERE. it may actually generate more business, but at least they are directing their marketing at the right segment. I for one would not go in. I staff my place on the needs of the business, sometimes my staff have nothing to do, if I saw them glum-faced behind the bar with no attempt to be friendly (that's not over-frinedly) with the customer, they'd be out the door. So how was Ron to know what type of bar he was in when the lady came and sat beside him to be friendly, in my bar being friendly to the customers is called "good customer service" something you pay for in the price of your beer

I once came by your place for breakfast. I couldn't get in!!! Only entrance I could see was via the security coded door. Maybe I'm not the only one to encounter this?

Good one galee, but it's not a trick, the idea of a closed door, is 1.security, 2.it implies we don't let any rif-raf in only a select clientel (ask Cable Guy), and 3.it wouldn't be a retreat with an open door would it.
