Thanks also, Phil, for the info in Daniels Pizza as I'm a pizza nut and the wife and I will be at The Irish for about 4 weeks including Xmas and New Years! Will also be good to see and eat at Nobi's again too. Great guy and great food. :D :D

And, staying on topic, am curious too see all the new bars there and abouts and see what is still open.

Thanks for the information. It all sounds rather quiet in Udon at the moment!

I am sure that other posters will give you much better advice than me but judging from my own experience
I would wait until I get here to do any exchange in currency as for the hotel with a pool I recommend the Charenshi
the one next door to the Robinson complex they have a pool and weight room and I believe Breakfast is included in the room now I want to say there B/fast is tops just get there early and so is there lunch both is buffet style and they have a grill if you want friend eggs as for eating dinner you can order in the hotel ala carte or go to Irish clock or Mojos
I recommend the clock there are other good places but out side the loop as for car rental across the street from mojo is a lady by the name of narlie or some thing like that she has cars for rent have a safe flight

Exchange rates should be the same if you are using the banks exchange booths in Bangkok city or Udon, airport booths may differ a little though, but not enough to make a whole lot of differance.

Barcode wants anything over 1 million baht. Also beware the current scam as I see it with ladydrinks, looks like an innocent orange juice being ordered but they have in fact ordered a malibu and orange so their drinks now go in the region of 120/130 baht!!!!(good bar, wonder girl to name a couple) Talk about trying to compete with Bangkok ladydrinks.
So be specific when out in the bars.Quite a few farang out and about,a lot mainly in 50/50,one even barfined a bargirl by 6pm in happy to get his end away =D>

Walking around late this afternoon, I noticed that a couple more newly opened bars are shut tighter than a drum.

I had mentioned before that John's Bar behind The Barcode has been repainted and signs removed, now the bar next to John's is history. I believe it was called The Empty Bar. Gone.

Richmond's Steak house did a remodel a few weeks ago and had a nice trio playing Thai and Farang songs is apparently history. Doors shut, tons of old lumber stacked outside. Pity.

Anyone want to venture what the hell is going on?

Walking around Center Point market I also notice a lot of stalls / spaces that were selling the normal stuff have vacated. Just a slab of cement left for the memories.

Maybe all these places are taking a short vacation and will reopen in the new UD Center or whatever they are calling it next to the train station. :-k

Still a few bars in Day/Night that are nice to have a bite to eat or drink still have a handful of customers.

Someone mentioned Wonder Girl as a decent place. NOT !! I guess we all have our likes and dislikes but the owner/mamasen there is a real snake in the grass if you ask me....but you didn't ask so I won't continue that story. :ugly: :ugly: :ugly: :ugly:

Bugseda, can you give us a clue why she is a snake in the grass,I saw brochures advertising a well known establishment here in Udon behind the counter,is it German run and has she married one?
I never mentioned that I liked the place just lady drinks were damn expensive :( when you are drinking a leos for 50 baht and their drink comes in at 130 baht!
Is this German sense of humour :-k

why do you buy the lady drinks when you know they are over priced so it your own fault
I don't have the answer but I am sure most of you do since you frequent these bars
and you continually get ripped off. I some times go to D/N and have a soda I pay 20 bot drink 3 comes to 60 bot give them a 100 bot and go home and I had fun with both ladies and the lady boys I am not
prejudice and I do enjoy myself and if your curious I do not bar fine any of them I sleep with
my wife only

Pompui,

Please let me assure you that when I said she is a snake in the grass, that would be my opinion and my opinion only. ;)

Since we all have different opinions and since this is an open posting board for Udonmap members (as long as one follows the rules) I will leave it there. I will not share on this board what happened to 3 of us while we were talking with a couple of the girls.

And I must say they have a couple of lookers there also. \:D/

I have no knowledge of or care who she is married to (if she is married at all) nor what brochures are available at the bar or who owns the bar.

I was specifically sharing my opinion of the mamasen.

I tend to put customer service above all else when it comes to open aired bars in Thailand. =D>

I found the Exchange Booths in Sukhumvith in Bangkok to offer higher rates than the ones at the airport/Udon.
Moreover, there is less hassle. Unlike Udon you won't be asked to produce your passport so that they can make a copy of it before you can change even 10 euros. What a buggar!

Richmond steak house as I understand it has new owners, they will re-open with a convivial friendly atmosphere befitting themselves.
the renovation and other work is being done with minimum fuss and will soon open, the other bar this couple had is excellent and is primarily relocating to offer a better location for its clients that is not too far away from others but not interfered with by music and possihble unsavoury clientele of neighbouring bars.

Their names are well known but as the transaction has not been fully implemented any further infomation could put the venture at risk, but most will appreciate it, i know I will and I have known at least one of the partners for many years as a friend.
