There are lots of touts outside the visa application place in bangkok who always tell your thai girlfriend that they do not have the correct paperwork. but the helpful tout can help you to get a visa for about 100,000 baht.

You should make sure your girlfriend gives these people a wide birth look on the uk embassy in bangkok website for a check list of everything you need. and the cost is about 15,000 bath or at least it was 2 years ago when we did it

Look up the detailed requirements on www. britishembassy.gov.uk. If all your paperwork is correct you should be OK, but a lot depends upon how long you have known her, the level of your relationship and whether she has ever applied for a visa before.

Their sole concern is that she will not become a burden on the UK state (also implies she will not become another illegal overstayer)so she has to be able to demonstrate that she (not you) can support herself financially in UK during her stay there.

She does not have to prove she can support herself in the UK if you sponsor her. Then you must prove you have the finances to support her stay. The more evidence you can supply of a long term relationship between yourselves the better. My GF will be reapplying in December. ;)

There is a very helpful forum here.

http://thailand-uk.com/eve/forums They cover just about everything to do with Visa's for the UK and are very helpful.

This is where to apply http://www.vfs-uk-th.com/ current price for a 6 months Visitors Visa is 4,536 baht.

Hi briang, I pick up the phrase "reapplying in December" Is this because she was rejected the first time or is this another UK visit? Why not get a multi-entry five year visa?

First application was rejected, not enough evidence provided of our relationship. [-X I did not do enough research and did not spend enough time making sure I got all the evidence that I could have. This time I have 100's of photos of us together in Thailand, Laos and Singapore, copies of Flight bookings, Hotel bookings, hundreds of email copies, screen dumps of us chatting on-line etc etc etc. :D

All the advice I have read is to go for a 6 months Visa for your first application. I also read somewhere that Bangkok now only issue 6 month or 2 year Visitors Visa's, but I can't find where I read that. :?

Cheers

A UK TOURIST VISA allows the person to remain in the country for a limited period and with no permission to work or study. At the end of the stay the person must leave the country.

Please note that it is NOT possible to marry in the UK on a tourist visa.

A tourist visa will be issued if the Embassy are satisfied that the applicant is coming to the UK for a period not exceeding six months, intends to leave at the end of their visit, does not intend to work, can be adequately accommodated and maintained and has the means and reasons to return home.

A tourist visa is normally valid for six months from the date it is issued by the Embassy, NOT six months from the date of entry into the UK. If your travel plans are made well in advance the Embassy can forward date the visa by up to three months. A tourist visa allows multiple entries to the UK during the period of its validity.

The Embassy will ask the applicant how long they intend to remain in the UK. If the answer is
