Okay, Xcession,
I'm somebody.
I have just tried that, out of curiosity and I still don't know what I was trying to accomplish after doing it.

So can you please explain to me what I was trying to do and how this will benefit me when using my computor.

By default the file extension is hidden, so you can only see the file name.
like...
somefilenameafter doing that (uncheck hide file extension for known file types), you can see the file extension.
somefilename.avi for the video files or
somefilename.mp3 for the mp3 audio file.
