Visa advice re visit to Laos

PostAuthor: franklunn » July 14, 2009, 11:09 pm

Thanks sean for quick reply, serviced or otherwise will do me as i can pretty much look after myself,i had both in Pattaya at some point, but prices were rising steadily during the time i was there(for everything) unless you wanted to live next to a karaoke or very noisy road.
I was going to do a quick trip to nong khai when i was in thailand before but it never materialised.I think a few days in a reasonable hotel and a look around will be the course of action, just wanted to see if there were places to rent.UK is pretty miserable at the moment, all sorts going on with one thing noticeable is the prices for everthing especially energy costs rising rapidly, same in thailand but not to the same levels i expect, makes living in nong khai something to look forward to...just a quick one,do they do 90 visa runs to vientiene? like i had to do to cambodia, anyway many thanks for your time and trouble.

They sure do. That's one of the best perks of living here in Nong Khai, not to far to go when you need to top up your visa.
yes sean, that was one of the ball aches about living in pattaya...the visa run to the border...9 hours trip, a 5am getup,a huge 1 page stamp in passport reducing your remaining pages and 2500bht but it had to be done.cheers for now.

Ah, well you would still lose a page in your passport here with a Laos visa stamp, but the cost is a little more modest at 1500 baht.

Good luck with your move Frank

Do they do 6 month visa runs to Laos?...seem to have read somewhere that when 12 month non-o visa is up it's possible get 6 month from vientiane.

'Fraid not frank.

Can get a non imm O single entry (but I THINK that is related to wanting a retirement/marriage visa - not sure of the exact rules that apply to getting one.)
Can get a Tourist visa - a single entry (giving 60 days) is free for the next year, normally 1,000 baht. A double entry is 2,000 baht. I am told it is possible to get a 30 day extension to one at Nong Khai. I am going to try tomorrow, so will say later if it is...the last time I tried (over 18 months ago) it was a no,no unless you had a air ticket back home within the 30 days.....

Well back from a very pleasant experience at Nong Khai Immigration office - something I thought I would never say... :D :D
The certainly will give 30 day extensions to Tourist visas now, just on request - so no other provisions other than filling in 1 form, passport photo, copies of pages in your passport & 1,900 baht....
It is still probably financially more expensive per day, than going to Vientiane and getting a new tourist visa, but that is only because that is free at the minute. Is a handy quick, alternative for 30 days and does not fill up more than half a page of your passport. The Vientiane route will be 2 & a half/3 passport pages... :D

Well that is a pleasant surprise Bob, I've had a few guys popping into my office recently that have been telling me some horror stories, so it makes a refreshing change from what seems to be the norm here =D>

Long may it continue!
