Visa For Children

PostAuthor: Sabai » June 19, 2007, 9:12 pm

Hi again
I am arriving on July 11th for 6 weeks does anyone know the law on child visas.

I was over last year and the Guy at Aek Udon did not have a clue. I want to renew my 30 day holiday visa at knon Kai as usual. My 18 month old baby is Irish from my TW but my 12 year old son is coming for the first time and is "full Irish".

When I arrived at knong Kai last year after much conflicting info from Thai customs they said children under 14 dont need to renew visas???

So my baby last time did not get a visa renewal and was not questioned on returning flight at BKK.

Is the 14 year old rule true or as in the life of "Brian" they dream it up as they go along. :?
I just want to adhere to proper Thai law. As the visas issue is UP IN THE AIR at the moment your views would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sabai

Sabai why don't you just get a 60 day tourist visa from your nearest consulate.
don't think the rules are no differant to us non-children as i was told by the consulate in hull,so he will need a visa just like his dad.

interesting, so your half irish half thai child did not need to extend the 30 day visa(on arrival) and no problems leaving thailand, anyone else do this and for what period of time is permitted, and is this correct, as i am interested too if this is possible now .

Sabai just phoned the Thai consulate and was told the rules where no different than they would be for us if travelling on british passports ie: extension's needed when due.(i presume its the same with an irish passport)

Sabai, whilst I can't quote you any factual information, they don't seem to be concerned about young children, of school age.

My GF's 7 year old daughter (Lao) came and stayed with us when we were living in Udon, and Immigration themselves said at that time that they don't worry about exits/re-entries or over-stays etc for young children.

In the main we complied with the normal (adult) requirements, though on one occasion the daughter did not exit after 30 days, but over-stayed, and then returned later with her mother. There was no problem, fine or fuss (at the bridge in Nong Khai), though they did take a photo-copy of the child's passport.

I note your child is older, though still of school age. I don't know whether he has his own passport or is included on yours?

i did'nt think you could have children or babys on your passport anymore(don't know when it changed though), i thought it all changed sometime way back and everyone has to have their own passport.
and if playing fully by the rules, the nice lady at the consulate said its no different for children than it is adults(they are not going to say any different though are they !!), but i am still interested in this as i might need several weeks extra if it was not impossible for my own little ling to wander freely around Udon's fine dusty expance with-out hindrence. ;)

then again might aswell just be better to get a non "0" visa and be done with it if its over a longer period.

Well my daughter 18 months has her own Irish Passport. As previously mentioned no need for visa extension but I brought her to knong Khai in case of problems but the customs said never mind visa for people under 14 years, they spoke to my wife to confirm this, just a little worried about my son being "True Irish" on his own passport.

Dont ask your man at AEK UDON . I would say he has truble finding his way home each night!!!!!!
