VISA Renewal.

PostAuthor: nola-udon » November 27, 2006, 7:20 pm

I have just returned from Nong Khai after renewing my non-immigrant "O" multiple entry VISA. The process went very smoothly thanks to the advice I received from Khun Ray23. The advice was all to do with proper documentation as follows: Make three copies of the following and you'll be ready for anything immigration asks you for.
1. VISA Application.
2. Copy all pages from your passport.
3. Have a notorized letter from your Embassy proving your income.
4. Copy all pages from your Thai account bank book.
5. A letter from your Thai bank that states your name, the name of your home country bank, the location of this bank (at least the city and state),
your account numbers for home and Thai banks, and an itemized list of all deposits from your home country bank for the year. The letter must be written within 10 days of your application and have your current balance listed. This balance should also match that of your bank book.
6. Your Thai Family book stating your residence here in Thailand.
7. Passport photos. (3)
8. A medical certificate dated within 10 days of application.
9. If married, your marriage documents.
10. Your departure card, which should already be stapled in your passport since your last entry into Thailand.
11. If married, also have wife's family card and ID.

This may sound like over kill to some of you, but I'd rather have too much with me, than not enough. And the immigration officer went over every page of this documentation in about 15 minutes and I was on my way. Good luck and thanks again Kuhn Ray.

Would you care to elaborate on how you get money from your home bank into the THai bank? Wire transfers? ATM? I would think if anyone showed a detailed list of all ATM transactions and a deposit of the required amount into the Thai bank, it should suffice.... along with the notorized letter from the US Embassy of income. My ATM tranfers are free on both ends, compared to $24 US for wire transfers each month. Any comments on this?

Thanks for the detailed list you presented. This should help a lot of people. I will copy and paste it into a document and save to my hard drive for future reading.

Mainer, " My ATM tranfers are free on both ends, compared to $24 US for wire transfers each month. Any comments on this?"

Me too, when I renewed my retirement visa last year I used the income statement from the embassy, and letter from bank (SCB) it was in Thai so not sure what it said. I also made copies of my US bank statements as they showed all ATM withdrawals here in Thailand, immigration showed no interest in these statements, only the SCB and embassy info. I still don't understand how they determined that the income was from outside of Thailand maybe the SCB letter stated this to be the case. I'll be renewing again in Jan. so should have more history then.

Well SCB should be writing the letter stating that the income is from outside the country, Sometimes thye do and sometimes they don't but in my letter I always make sure that information is included.

My approach is over kill, but copies are cheap and frustration with having to worry about returning a second time is not, at least to me.

ray23, you are probably right about SCB letter, but I didn't show them where the money comes from, all they know is that I deposit the money in the account. Sometimes the money is in the account for only 2 or 3 minutes;o)

VISA Renewal

PostAuthor: nola-udon » November 28, 2006, 5:09 pm

Mainer, I make 12 annual deposits of at least 40,000 Baht to my Thai bank, using my debit card from my USA bank for free. I present these 12 deposit receipts to my Thai bank to write my letter.

Jetdoc, in my letter it states that deposits are from my USA bank. You have to let your bank know this is required in the letter.

Dakoda, you can pay an extra 3800 Baht when you renew your VISA for them to stamp it multiple entry. This eliminates the need to get a "Permission to Leave the Kingdom" form every time you leave. It's not a good idea for everyone, but it works for me. I just don't like going to immigration any more than I need, so the 3800 is worth it to me.
